A typical late-afternoon thunderhead boils up over Darwin city, a towering cumulonimbus in an otherwise lightly clouded sky. Rain is pouring down over a fairly small area under the cloud, which is lit a pale peach in places by the approaching sunset. In the foreground on the left is the wide curve of the mangroves forming the shoreline of Nightcliff Bay, with the bay and some pioneering mangroves on the right. The storm itself is over the continuation of the curve of the bay, running off the frame to the right.

My butterfly amaryllis this morning.

I raised this amaryllis from a small bulb I purchased 4 yrs ago. I wasn't sure if it was ever going to bloom but amaryllis foliage s quite lovely on its own.

Definitely worth the wait

This variety of amaryllis has six-pointed, teardrop-shaped petals that create a trumpet-like star structure and radiate from a center with long stamens and a pistil that droop down and across the top of the lowest petal. Each petal is a pale lime green with maroon edges and feathering that is dense near the flowers center and becomes streaky towards the petal tips. The stamens are white with tan anthers and the pistil is white with a white stigma.
