A blackbird perched on the water bowl in my garden this morning, looking handsome.
The camera is motion-triggered and it captures so many images that I am often amazed at how frequently the birds come to bathe and drink, even in the winter months. There is a small river nearby, but they really seem to appreciate having a safe place with nearby cover to use instead (sorry for anthropomorphising).

A Common blackbird, also known as the 'Eurasian blackbird' (Turdus merula) perches on top of a stainless steel bowl, with its back to the camera and its head turned to the left. The bowl is full of water and the bird has just taken a drink. Typical mid-winter foliage surrounds the bowl: dead leaves, pine needles, grasses and other garden foliage; most of which is brown or straw coloured.

One of my favourite café's in #Inverness has closed =( and they're trying to raise funds to re-open under a new name; Roots Café.

They're amazing for communtiy work and in promoting bicycles as transport, health improvement and social aspects. They do an incredible vegan menu.

Staff were always superb, kind and generally went that extra mile without being asked.

I took this picture of a 'lonely' Scots pine while walking the hills for work this week (actually, the pine is not too 'lonely', as there were scattered native broadleaves nearby, some of which can be seen in the picture).
Surveying this land was hard work, what with the wind, rough terrain and constant uphill/downhill walking. It took 1.5 hours on foot to get here from the car, all the while wearing wellies because it was just too wet for walking boots....

The green foliage of a Scots pine tree stands out against the autumnal brown hues of grasses, bracken and heather in this upland landscape. A small lochan can be seen in the middle distance and the sky is largely grey and full of clouds. The darker grey of distant hills can be seen in the far distance.

About
