Hey Fediverse! I just set up a #MarkovBabbler for the #Snipette website and it was very fun so if you want to do something to fight scraper-bots I'm open to setting up a #MarkovBabbler for your website too. Consider this a mini #FediHire ✨

🪴 I'll set up #Nepenthes or something similar of your choice on your existing server, but customise it so it kind of looks like your website and can provide human visitors with a bit of entertainment. I don't know tooo much of its inner workings but I'm a quick learner and am also adept at styling/templating/picking up your website's vibes

✋ I'll assume you're already aware of the consequences of such tools and how effective (or not) they are (but feel free to ask!).

💰 You can pay me $0 to $50 whatever works, of course the more the better! (Also, you probably know this but all these tools are available for free if you'd rather DIY it)

🎧 One volunteer with an account is US Dollars or similar (first come first served, but preference to those I follow) can collect the payments on my behalf and use it to buy me a #Tangara which is also programmed with #Lua same as #Nepenthes

⏳ Offer valid till I get a Tangara (or maybe even after? Let's see!)

I common objection I'm seeing to #nepenthes is "wasting" my computing power, and thus electricity (and carbon budget) to waste someone else's compute/electricity is bad.

Any time one of these crawlers pulls from my tarpit, it's resources they've consumed, and will have to pay hard cash for, but being bullshit, the money have spent to get it won't be paid back by revenue. It effectively raises their costs. And seeing how none of them have turned a profit yet, that's a big problem for them. The investor money will not continue forever without the investors getting paid.

How much am I spending on this? About a Raspberry Pi, give or take, and I have Facebook, Amazon, and Anthropic slamming it hard at the same time.

We live in an age dominated by Oligarchs. One of many things this means is, boycotting no longer works. To stop them, they must directly suffer harm. I don't intend to sit by idly anymore, I want to do something. I'm open to other ideas, if you have one, SPEAK UP.

#Sabah’s hidden giant: #Nepenthes pongoides, a micro-#endemic tropical #PitcherPlant from northern #Borneo. By Alviana Damit et al. publish.csiro.au/BT/BT24050

"The purpose of the pitcher is to capture both rainfall and insects... This newest species was found able to grow to 45 centimeters and to hold over two liters of water."
