@topher if you like #SGI #IRIX, then maybe @bunsenlabs / #BunsenLabs woth it's #OpenBox desktop is right up your alley?

It's a #Debian-based distro and it barely sips resources to the point that even a #Poulsbo (#AtomZ520 + #GMA500)-based #Netbook (in my case a Vaio #P11Z) can run it fluidly as software renderer (#llvmpipe)...

It is such a shame that netbooks are no longer a thing.

This machine - Samsung NC10 , currently running Debian Buster - is the ideal size for slipping into a bag, and has a decent keyboard.

Oh for a modern version of this cheap and cheerful machine.
