Gerade wurde mir bewusst, dass #Nextcloud in meiner Familie völlig unbekannt ist – während Google Fotos und Google Drive wie selbstverständlich genutzt werden. Ein deutliches Zeichen dafür, wie fest Google im Alltag der Menschen verankert ist.

Getting Nextcloud working on TrueNAS Scale was a bit of work and probably deserves a blog post but I'm busy poking it to see if anything breaks first!

After a re-setup of my #homelab server with #truenas I finally have #nextcloud up and running again.

In the past I used Nextcloud Photos to backup my phone but now moved to #immich. Now finally can also move all my #googlephotos to my private cloud

Just triggered the export of the photos ;-)

Ich habe gestern meine #NextCloud bei #hosting.de eingerichtet. Eigene Domain, unter der meine Cloud erreichbar ist und das Beste ist, dass meine Daten ausschließlich in Rechenzentren in Deutschland liegen! #unplugtrump
Jetzt habe ich meine Daten überall synchron dabei, Kalender, Adressbuch, Notizen, Aufgaben und Lesezeichen - Perfekt!
Und als es ein Problem gab, hat mir der hosting.de Service am Sonntag (!!!) geholfen - Danke an das Team! Ein zufriedener Kunde.

Brauche einen Tipp für eine einfach (von Laien) zu bedienende Fotogalerie-Software (oder Fotoverwaltung), die idealerweise auf einer bestehenden Verzeichnisstruktur aufsetzt und EXIF-Daten (v.a. Titel, Keywords, Rating, Zeitstempel, GPS) liest und schreibt. Einfache Bildbearbeitung (Zuschneiden etc.) wäre ein Plus. Das Ganze #SelfHosted oder als #Linux Programm.

So etwas in Richtung Ente-Photos oder #NextCloud Memories, die aber beide beim Thema Exif-Tags schwächeln.

I have lots of favorites (starred places) in #OSMand and I want to view them on a map on a bigger screen, not just on the phone. When I export them, I get a favorites.gpx file.

As far as I understand, these are waypoints on a track?

I opened the file in the nextcloud map, and it displays the points, but without any text.

The entries look like this:

I tried converting the file to (geo)json, but so far the file has come out empty. I realize I don't really know what I'm looking for. It doesn't have to be nextcloud compatible at all, that was just the first thing I had on hand.

I would like to see the points and their names on a map on a bigger screen.

Some thoughts on my preliminary investigation of #Omeka ( https://omeka.org/classic/docs/Installation/Installing/ ).

Built on pretty standard #LAMP stack.
No official docker image that I could find, so of course I built my own.
Which reminded me why I HATE php.

Anyway.

Some light testing (running locally).
Pretty simple to use (good).
No fancy ideas about creating "presentation" versions of items, and keeping the original upload "pristine". I am of two minds on this - for now, not a problem for me, but I can see how large archives might be problematic.

For example, a MOV file needs to be presented as a MP4 for widest audience. And you probably don't want to lose the original.
With Omeka that means some manual work on the admin side.

It support plugins and themes - I'm of two minds here also. Good way
to extend functionality and allow for customization, but my experience with such things are not good ito longterm stabililty and maintenance.

I'm also not super keen on #MySQL as the db, due to recent corruptions issues with my #Nextcloud instance (moved that to #PostgreSQL ).
BUT, this will be read heavy, so maybe not an issue - hard-ish to corrupt a db by reading from it.

The useage of #DublinCore at least means (I think) in theory, if I really want, I should be able to migrate to another Dublin Core compatible system if needed. So...good.

My verdict - I'm going to play with it some more.
Install some plugins etc, see what happens.
I'm also building up a test set of assets, in case I want to eval something else.
