Pt Cabrillo Light Station

On a recent visit to the North Coast of California and the beautiful Mendocino coastline my wife and I decided to check out the Pt. Cabrillo Light Station between the city of Mendocino and Ft. Bragg.
This wonderful lighthouse has been sitting on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean since 1909. There are also hiking trails to enjoy.

Pt Cabrillo Light Station This is an image of the Point Cabrillo Light Station located on bluff sitting above the Pacific Ocean in Mendicino County in Northern California. The light station sits on a large green manicured lawn that fills the foreground of the image. The lighthouse has a stout sturdy look. The walls are all roughly the same length and are covered in wood siding painted white. The windows of the house and also on the lower part of the tower also seem to be the same size. Al of the trim is painted a bronze color. The roof is clad in red shingles. The light at the top of the tower is topped off with a large Fresnal Lens. The sky is foggy and overcast but the sun is trying to break through.

Sunken Boat In Noyo Harbor

The first time that I shot this boat was back in 2012. At that time it was still floating.
In 2017 this boat was a casualty of the heavy rainstorms we had in Northern California. As I approached I couldn't see the boat, that is until I was a little closer to the edge of the river where I saw that it had sunk. Now it seems to have taken on a new life.

Sunken Boat In Noyo Harbor This is an image of an old fishing boat located at Noyo Harbor in Ft. Bragg, California. The boat had sunk during a fierce winter storm back in 2017. The foreground of the image is the green waters of Noyo Harbor. The water has small ripples on the surface. The boat sits partially submerged in the water. The stern is completely under water while the bow is pointed slightly upward. You can see a few planks missing from the hull of the boat. The cabin is also partially submerged. You can see a green moss growing on the side of the boat. The boat is still tied up to the dock where I originally spotted her. The dock has an old warehouse on it. Behind the dock are some trees and bushes covering the hillside,.

Now that his leg seems to have healed we've started exploring the newly public MCSD park on the east edge of mckinleyville. Folks in the community have clearly put some effort into fixing a couple little bridges, making pretty signs, etc. I'd love to get rid of a bunch of the pampas grass and ivy that are killing all the local plants/ trees. If my shoulders ever heal maybe I'll come try to work on that. Hm. Maybe.

Medium size dog about 40 pounds. Colored like a penguin with a face a little bit like a fox and a white nose and pointy upright ears looking at the camera. He is standing on the edge of a path which is covered with Brown leaves. The edge of which is a bramble of himalaya invasive blackberries, which are creeping into the path. Because of the camera angle, the trees and forest behind the bramble is not visible and no other native plants are apparent besides the brown tree leaves. The dog has a purple harness and a green leash.
Medium size black & white dog. Is standing on a crude wooden bridge over a muddy creek. A few ferns and various local plants grow around the Creek as well. As a lot of endace ground cover plants. If you brown tree branches, hang down from outside of the picture on the far side of the stream..

I think we may be moving to Eureka. Our trip to Sacramento has just proved we wouldn’t be saving any money by moving there from San Diego. The smaller pond of Eureka will actually proffer more opportunities for me as a beginning artist, and I guess it just feels less like an average city with all the same stuff as any other community.

We’ve spent the last couple days in Sacramento looking at places we can afford, and there aren’t many that met our requirements where we’d actually feel safe. Lots of smaller apartments, but all on the steeper end than we will be able to afford. So moving there would be a lateral move for us, and therefore pointless.

Eureka comes with a lot of downsides. But we think the benefits outweigh them. For us. So we’ll begin watching the listings while we wait until June (probably) when more options become available as students end their leases after Cal Poly Humboldt gets out for the summer.

Today, I took a walk on the Trinidad Head Trail off of Trinidad, CA, and it was amazing. I think my legs and hips got one of the craziest workouts they’d ever had, but it was worth it!

The day was cool and cloudy, and everything was damp and a bit muddy, but it was also crisp and invigorating and a real joy in its own way.

I think the small town of Trinidad, however, is a very very pricey place to live. Jus’ sayin’. Those houses. Ka. Ching.

What a lovely conclusion to our time in Humboldt County!! I could live here!

Hey #Humbolt County and #NorCal folks, my doctor has (unbeknownst to me until today😞) left the practice. Do you have a GP or NP that you like? My criteria are: 1) spends more than 5 minutes with a patient, 2) not likely to dismiss my CFS as "all in my head." 3) does not have creepy Christian crap in their waiting room.
I'm also willing to go as far as Santa Rosa.

I have a BlueSky account as well as this one. I can tell you, the vibe is VERY different. BSKY is much more like the old Twitter (before Leon) but with better controls.

Overall, I like Mastodon as a platform better. It is gentler, kinder and provides a better user experience. I particularly like that I can ramble quite a while before the little number goes into the red.

Will spend some time with my daughter's family over the next week or so. Get to visit places I have never seen before. The boy will be minding the dogs (more or less) and hopefully keeping the homestead intact.

Ft Bragg Sunset

Ft. Bragg is a wonderful Northern California seaside town that has been through many changes over the last century.
Lumber and fishing have been the main industry in this small town for many years. The lumber industry mostly died by the mid 1900's and the Salmon fishing has dropped off due to the fish population. It still has a small town charm and worth a visit.

Ft Bragg Sunset This is an image captured on the north coast of California in Ft Bragg. The left side of the image is a rock formation on the edge of the beach where it meets the Pacific Ocean.
