Iceland is my happy place, but if you asked me which part of Iceland made me the happiest, I'd say with 100% certainty, it's the Eastfjords.

I took this photo there, somewhere between Egilsstaðir and Reykjafjorður, in October 2017. Been back to Iceland a couple of times since but not to the Eastfjords. Really looking forward to being back there next month.

Humpbacks

Whale-watching in Skjálfandi¹ bay, north-eastern #Iceland, in November.

Over about 2 hours we saw at least 4 individuals, we could tell this by the patterns on the fluke.
They were relaxed, and were feeding around the boat quite happily. No hunting takes place in this area.
The vessel was one of a fleet of 1970s oak fishing boats which have been lovingly restored. One ship has an electric motor for silent sailing.

Last year, we took a week to drive slowly from Berlin along the "Balkan route" via the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and North Macedonia to my husband's Greek family's house on the Ionian Sea. This picture is from #NoviSad in #Serbia, where, like everywhere else, we met the nicest people and spent a lovely evening. I always think about it now when I hear news about today's remarkable protests there.

Bradmill factory stands as a testament to Australia's industrial heritage. Founded in Sydney in 1927, Bradford Cotton Mills expanded its operations to Victoria in 1940. By the late 1950s, a new factory was established on Francis Street, Yarraville, and the company rebranded as Bradmill. At its peak, the Bradmill factory was a bustling hub of activity, producing an astounding 36 million square meters of cotton denim annually. This was enough to wrap the globe, earning the factory global recognition for its innovative denim production. The factory employed thousands of workers, many of whom built lifelong friendships and cherished memories within its walls. Bradmill was known for its cutting-edge technologies and diverse range of products, including Colvadure, nylon, polyester, rayon, and elastomeric stretch yarns. The factory's materials were used in various products, from firehoses and deck chairs to tents and tarpaulins. Despite facing challenges such as increased competition and inflation in the 1980s, Bradmill thrived on innovation and ventured into new export markets. The factory's culture of excellence and inclusivity fostered a strong sense of community among its employees. With a diverse workforce of over 30 nationalities, Bradmill erased barriers and hierarchy, creating a united and vibrant community.
