Replaced old 1950s receptacle w new one. Added clamp-on current sensors out to a #Zigbee unit in a separate (plastic) box to contact #HomeAssistant.

Broke the tab off to split the receptacle and applied sensors to track dehumidifier and sump pump separately.

Needed a sensor flip to fix current dir, but it works nicely now. I get an email if the pump comes on!

Only in the house 6mo or so, and don't think the sump pump has run yet. We'll see how spring goes – probably the riskiest period.

This is the little 2channel #zigbee monitor I'm using. Looks like lots of people using something similar. It has two current sensor clamps, so it's nicely non invasive.

Not wild about it using 120V power as a battery or an adapter would prob be safer, but I've put the thing in a utility box to keep the 120V supply lines safely covered.

Can sense up to 80A of current

Learning more than I'd hoped was necessary about the #HomeAssistant #zigbee device handling.

There are python add-ons called "Quirks" that lets devices add an array of sensor entities after the fact for ZHA and Z2m.

I've got a 2-channel power sensor I'm trying to add and it seems to be on the bleeding edge of supported devices.

I see dev work going on, so might be the easiest path forward is to wait a few weeks.

But hey, I learned about Quirks today, so that's a new corner of HA for me.

A little behind on the #HomeAssistant situation. Moved house but most of my prev setups have analogs (or anticipated equivalents) here – if I can get around to installing them.

Two re-activated today: an outdoor receptacle controller and front-entrance light controller, both #zigbee .

Gloriously both just pop back into normal operation as they power up. You'd almost expect failure requiring a reconfig with updates installed over the past few months, but nope - they just work. Nice!

Smart Home stuff:

Finally done what I have been procrastinating for at least two years.

I had two
#zigbee coordinators running, 1 original Hue bridge with Hue integration and one USB Zigbee Stick with ZHA integration.

Round about 30 devices in total.

Now, after 2 days of nerve wrecking work all devices are running in
#zigbee2mqtt 🥳

All the automations for remotes and presence sensors were such a repetitive work... oh boy*girl... no fun at all.

But after all it was worth it because I implemented a new nomenclature
:blobcatcode:

#homeassistant is fantastic, even if some improvements would be nice like:

"Hey your automation has an error because the light entity is missing. Maybe you want to replace it with some other light? Here are all available lights, just choose one"

That would have saved me hours
:blobcatgiggle:

PS: I am glad I don't need that Hue Bridge anymore... Saves another 2 watts per hour
😬

Edit: PPS: OMG I hate those G10 bulbs that I bought from IKEA a few years ago. It was hella difficult to pair those again.
I hat to put the USB Stick 20cm close to them to identify em after reset.

Out of curiosity: Are there #zigbee (or other wireless protocols that can be easily used by #HomeAssistant) radiator valves where you can directly control how much the valve is open?

We currently have two where for different reasons the internal logic results in a suboptimal result (and stacking multiple control loops on top of each other is usually a PiTA, so I want to avoid that).

ooh, #Aqara has some cool cameras and some of them can serve as zigbee hubs as well. am i correct that the Ikea lighting system could leverage an alternate zigbee hub like an Aqara G2H Pro or one of their home hubs like the M2?

my special lady would like to see what Daffy (her little chihuaorkie puppy) is up to when we're out. we know about the peeing but what else, Daffodill.

#zigbee
