Apparently Automattic are laying off around one in six of their workforce. And I'm one of the unlucky ones.
Anybody remote hiring for a UK-based full-stack web developer (in a world that doesn't seem to believe that full-stack developers exist anymore) with 25+ years professional experience, specialising in PHP, Ruby, JS, HTML, CSS, devops, and about 50% of CMSes you've ever heard of (and probably some you haven't)... with a flair for security, accessibility, standards-compliance, performance, and DexEx?

- was alles Ziel ist (z.B. Förderung von LGBT weltweit; Indigenes Wissen)
- Regierungsseiten bei einer privaten Firma gehosted #automattic #wordpress

This needs to be shared widely:
#WhitehouseWash
My change-detection just caught something big:
dei.gov got registered around one week ago - for some days it was empty.
Than a long list appeared, which quickly got password-protected; see screenshots.
It lists short bullet-points about 'wasteful' governmental spending, looks like a list to justify their actions (and what may be to come)
See for yourself:

Tumblr to join the fediverse after WordPress migration completes
"Automattic confirmed to TechCrunch that when the migration is complete, every Tumblr user will be able to federate their blog via ActivityPub, just as every WordPress.com user can today."
https://techcrunch.com/2025/02/11/tumblr-to-join-the-fediverse-after-wordpress-migration-completes/
don't let transphobe matt mullenweg and his corpo buddies in! sign The Anti-Automattic ActivityPub Accord, Or, FediPact 2: The Car Hammer Explosion Pact and pledge to defederate them from your instance today!!!!!
FediPact 2: Electric Boogaloo
Since #Tumblr (owned by #MattMullenweg's #Automattic) renewed plans to join the #Fediverse, I suggest blocking them (as I have) for the same reason as #Threads: queerphobia and corporate tracking.
Just like the anti-Meta #FediPact (https://FediPact.online), there's now an anti-Automattic #FediPact2: https://FediPact2.online
Like I did with Meta, I wrote #iptables commands your #FediAdmin can use to drop all traffic to and from Automattic's IP addresses: https://pastebin.com/e5UKJCKU (source: AS2635)
also yeah tumblr has recently reiterated their desire to federate hence the fedipact sequel

The Anti-Automattic ActivityPub Accord, Or, FediPact 2: The Car Hammer Explosion Pact
today i'm very happy to announce the creation of a new initiative! The Anti-Automattic ActivityPub Accord, Or, FediPact 2: The Car Hammer Explosion Pact. similar to the first fedipact this is a thingy i've created to encourage peeps to defed a coming big corpo instance. this time, tumblr! resist corporate invasion of the fediverse and sign today!
Ich frage mich seit... och, eigentlich seit deren Einführung, wann #Automattic zugibt, dass die Idee der Blöcke in #Wordpress ein Reinfall war.
"A year after initial tests began, the blogging site #Tumblr, now owned by WordPress.com parent #Automattic, is launching its Communities feature out of beta. Communities offer semi-private spaces on Tumblr where people can network around topics of interest, similar to Reddit’s forums known as subreddits or X’s Communities."

WPEngine asks for more: to prohibit Automattic from blocking WPEngine's access to password-protected functionality, to prohibit blocking WPEngine's access to its plugins (including ceasing the auto-migration to Automattic versions), from disclosing WPE customers, and requiring removal of the checkbox. #WPE #WPEngine #Automattic

WPEngine and Automattic have stipulated to a bare bones preliminary injunction allowing WPE access to public pages and they can submit security vulnerabilities, but Automattic still wants WPEngine blocked from password-protected functionality (Automattic would not agree to more) #WPE #WPEngine #Automattic

I will do some office-hours now https://meet.jit.si/wp-activitypub
join me, to chat about the #ActivityPub #plugin for #WordPress, fix issue, plan new features, ...
We just released version 4.1.0 of the #ActivityPub Plugin for #WordPress https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/
Some handpicked features:
* Custom Preview for “Fediverse” (needs WordPress 6.7)
* Support `comment_previously_approved` setting
* Add title to content if post is a `Note` (cc @davew )
* Fallback to blog-user if specific user is disabled (cc @cdevroe )
Happy federated blogging!
The version on WordPress.com will also be updated soon!
My god this is a tacky and childish new move from #Automattic in the ongoing #WPDrama
Doxxing people's web hosting choices? Seriously?
I thought Matt's advent calendar of cringe was all used up, looks like there's still more turds to uncover.

@dothewoo.io is now on the #fediverse
This may be the reference implementation of #podcasts in #WordPress blogs and i hope that more podcasts will follow this example.
@BobWP @derekahanson It was fun working with you on that
And kudos to the @Mastodon team, the audio player is pretty neat!!!
If you're not yet tired of following the dispute between Automattic and WP Engine and the impact on the WordPress community, you should read this brilliantly written post.
The post is very detailed, but describes the background and picks apart a post previously published on A8c's blog piece by piece.
In my view, it's a must-read.

“#WordPress.org is Matt #Mullenweg’s personal website (source: the #Automattic account on X.com). Matt is also the owner of our largest competitor, #WooCommerce. The conflict of interest was always there, but in the weeks following WordCamp US 2024, Matt crossed several lines that make it crystal clear that he has no intentions of running WordPress.org as an #open and #fair #platform.”
