@alterelefant @apicultor @Heidi OFC...

The only competiton so far besides #LTO and #IBM3592 is #ODA or #OpticalDiscArchive which is basically a fancy cartridge system containing 12 #bluray discs each...

  • Needless to say the need for #fast and #portable storage will make the use of #SSD|s (even if just simple NOR-Flash ROMs) sooner or later unavoidable given #BDXL has been maxed out at 128 GB, HDDs are too sensitive for many scenarios (we had #iomega #Jaz & #Rev already, and #RDX exists to this day) unavoidable, as data requirements rise faster than the average internet speed.

I have cancelled all but one of my streaming video subscriptions in an effort to save money. I wanted to watch a certain movie but didn’t have a physical or digital copy, and didn’t want to purchase it. Suddenly, I remembered that libraries exist. Today I walked to the library and checked out a few movies on Blu-ray and DVD. For free. I feel strangely powerful. Support - and use - your local library.

Ok so @techwolf12 and I were talking about blu-ray, and we suddenly found out about the existence of "BD-Live".
Basically as far as we can find, this was a feature that certain blu-ray discs had that allowed for additional online features to be provided.

Some examples I can find online are honestly quite extreme, like having a chatroom during the movie? What?

I'm super intrigued but can't seem to find /anything/ about this standard or what options it had.

Also?? Does this mean you can run code on your blu-ray player through this??? Can you boot linux? Do we have blu-ray linux?

So many questions!!
Anyone that knows more about this on here, or can link us to a bit more technical specification of this feature?

#UnpopularOpinion:

#ClassAction as a measure to deliver recourse against #Corporations is inherently #flawed, #unjust and cements the fact that "If the #penalty is a #fine, it's only #illegal for the #poor"!

In case you don't believe me that #ClassActions only exist to enrich #LawFirms and allow any #corporation to send out insultingly-low #cheques:

(Don't even get me started on the shitshow that is #iCloudLock which I hope the @EUCommission will #ban as it's *infringing on #ConsumerRights re: #property and causes thousands of tons of 100% avoidable #eWaste...)

That feeling when your trusty, reliable #NAS from 2017 isn't ready to stream full HD video just after you've decided to start putting full resolution #BluRay files on there instead of all the old downsized portable files you used to use.

If only I had known that 7 years later I'd have outgrown my hardware...

Seeing a post about the 49th anniversary of Rocky Horror ... can someone recommend best Blu-Ray release, or link me to reviews confirming the best Blu-ray release so far?

I see some commentary about mistakes in audio remastering on the 7.1 side for the 35th anniversary edition, but the original mono track being true to the original. And there are 40th and 45th anniversary editions. (Fingers crossed for a UHD release for the 50th anniversary next year, but don't want to wait.)
