Despite the current chaos in much of my residence, I was able to find one of my plastic over-the-door hooks.
I brought it out we tried hanging the hook over our hands: perfect size!
Then I explained my plan, which would be to cut the hook so the over-the-door part was gone and just the hand-hook would remain.

My friend said they were thinking oerhaps of using a Command Hook on the back so that the elder could at least hang the body of the phone off their hand while dealing with following the 1-2-3 direction labels.
I don't know the whole Command line of products, but I said I didn't think they'd have a hook big enough for what my friend was thinking.
And then I jumped up and said I'd be right back!
