Ubik by PKD

Here’s a reel that depicts what I intended to be the overall experience of holding and opening this book. The dust cover depicts the Ubik and the advertisement on the back in relatively normal fashion, only to be revealed as distorted and regressed once the dust cover is removed. All the ads for each chapter in the book are similarly designed.

The Man in the High Castle
By Philip K Dick

This rebind will be gifted to a Philip K Dick fan. The cover was printed on inkjet canvas.

The end papers were originally desktop wallpaper designs created by Caparzofpc on DeviantArt

A book is centered in the photo with the book cover spread open and on full display, laid on a gray-wood background. The back cover shows in a WWII era Japanese zero fighter plane and a WWII era German zeppelin with a swastika painted on its side. Both flying machines are depicted in black and white, like in old photos. The two flying machines sit between three lines of words. Line one at the top reads "TRUTH". Line two in the middle reads "AS TERRIBLE AS DEATH". Line three at the bottom reads "BUT HARDER TO FIND". The words and the images are centered in the middle of a red circle. The red circle has red stripes radiating from it like a sun against an off-white background. The spine of the book is solid red, with the title of the book written as "THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE" in off-white capital letters. The front cover has the same off-white background, with the red sunburst stripes from the back cover extending onto the front cover. The front cover has the title written in black capital letters "THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE". Centered on the front cover is a Reichsadler, which is an eagle with its wings spread, and in its claws it is gripping a wreath. Centered in the wreath is a ring of thirteen stars and a swastika. I bought a liter can of extra virgin olive oil cold pressed from ancient olive trees in Jenin, Palestine, sold by Handmade Palestine.

After it was delivered to me, I decided to upcycle the packaging the oil came in by turning parts of the box into a little coptic stitch notebook. The pages are from paper scraps that a friend gave me. It’s nothing gorgeous, but I’m quite pleased with it.
