Final tally on #cleanenergy win:
Americans bought 32% more clean air-source heat pumps than fossil gas furnaces in 2024.
Biggest margin ever!
20 year trend, aka much bigger than
Got big bump from Biden's #IRA tax credits, also normal trend of how new tech is adopted.
Heat pumps for housing are major part of states' climate plans

Self-defending microgrids can rally home appliances to fend off cyberattacks.
A. I have code to run today onsite B. My office has a heating issue, it was 90 degrees when I arrived, slowly dispelling to the low 80s with the help of a fan but C. The fan is very loud and D. The database connection is exceedingly slow this morning. Sigh.
Today I've connected a split Haier AC unit to my #HomeAssistant smart home. By default, the unit would run a proprietary controller via a proprietary Haier smartphone app and connect to someone else's cloud. This tweak I've done makes it work completely locally in Home Assistant via #ESPHome, relying on #FreeSoftware exclusively.
New findings quantifying #publichealth benefit of switching to heat pumps to heat/cool buildings. Could save thousands of lives, illness, and misery.
Esp in cold climates where gas or oil used for heat.
Having a heat pump/geothermal system installed at my house this week, getting these dirty (and failing) gas appliances out of my indoor air. Great to see another reason!

Am I the only one who gets frustrated by HVAC in general and Hutzel in particular? Today will be the third service call in a month, latest was Sunday. It's not the only year this has happened. Am I merely unlucky?
10°F/ -12°C
Feels like -7°F/-21°C
Aux heat (natural gas) overnight: 0 kWh
Heat pump: 100% contribution, only 2kWh used.
I wish i could give everyone a heat pump.
Last year at this time I was consuming up to 38 kWh on a cold night to warm my home.
Installed heat pump, been significantly colder this year at the same time as last year:
Household consumption around 16 kWh.
or around 5 kWh more than an average unheated, uncooled day of temperatures around 50-68F in September. Easily offset by solar if the sun is out.
Rough estimates of course, and today the wind chill temperature will get down to -9F but we'll see how it goes.
Looking for someone that has first hand experience with 120v #InfraredHeating panels.
I have my TV setup in my basement, which is nice in the summer, but a little chilly in the winter.
Getting a ceiling mounted (400watt? 800watt?) panel and mounting it over the sofa _feels_ like it might be far more efficient than using a space heater to heat up all the air molecules in my basement.
Now why didn't I think of that! A simple idea for air handling unit design improvement with proven results. #Engineering #EnergyEfficiency #HVAC
