We all are taking different paths when it comes to dealing with election day. Whether you are choosing #alcohol, tea, coffee, or fancy water (like Indy), stay hydrated.
Always have a plan if you are drinking; call a friend, go for a walk, or call a taxi/Uber if you need to hit the road and have had a few. Potentially losing a democracy is a tragedy, but so is a preventable death.
Carrying on with the hydration theme. I acquired a 1lt Platypus Soft Bottle and then used the modified Source adaptor to test. No leakage so far, even after putting pressue on the soft bottle when it was nearly full.
This brings about a 40g solution in place of a 180g Nalgene. Still heavier than a normal Osprey hydration bladder, but more versatile for sure.
More than a few of us have probably tied one on and wound up with a head-splitting, demoralizing hangover the next morning. Hydration packs are great:
- Water is hidden away from the sun.
- Drinking pipe is always available for a quick sip.
- Easy to carry 3lt if a backpack has a hydration sleeve feature.
Hydration packs are a pain when:
- It comes to refilling them with a full pack.
- Having to filter water first to fill them.
- Cooking time, and it is your only water container.
So I have been experimenting with bottles and I bought a wide-mouth Nalgene bottle as part of the testing.
Well, it's a pain if you do not want to take your pack off for a quick sip. You always have reach back to wiggle it out of the side pocket.
So I decided to mod the system to take a drinking pipe. Although the US has some nice mods in the cottage industry, they are not readily available in Europe. Here is my story in a couple of toots...
