With all the installations on #GNU/#Linux (servers, vms, desktop, ... ), #BSD and #Unix systems, #MacOS, #Microsoft #Windows and WLS) I feel comfortable to claim there or way more than 1 billion installations of Vi*; often without people knowing about it.
Thank you Bram Moolenaar, Christian Brabandt, the whole #Vim community, and all the people from projects like #NeoVIM, #Nvi, #Busybox #Vi, who develop and maintain their #vim flavour.

People ask why I use Neovim.
It's because of amazing plugins like this
**typr**: Typing practice plugin for Neovim with dashboard.
Supports showing detailed stats & configuration!

LOL, except that was wrong... it kinda felt/looked wrong TBH... I wanted 'org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.Value'. Which makes a LOT more sense.
Has to be an easier way to find these. Or is it just a case of learning the patterns... next job is: search #neovim plugings for some sort of Java "import" search/resolver.
خب دوستان این هم از آموزش تنظیم و کانفیگ Neovim.
به عنوان اولین ویدیویی که بصورت عمومی منتشر کردم بنظرم خوب شد.
امیدوارم مفید باشه، اگر نظری، سوالی و پیشنهادی داشتین حتما بگین.
First issue to be hit with #neovim ... Debian 12 has v0.7.2 from June 2022... the default instructions to install lazyvim result in an error that you need 0.8 or newer. I think the facepalm for this probably belongs to Debian given v0.8.0 came out in September 2022... (and this is the sort of reason a lot of us switched to Ubuntu back in the day... I am totally for caution in updates, but shipping a 2.5 year old version seems just obstructive.)
I guess it's another thing I'll shift to an appimage for then.
So far I've not found any alternative apt repo.
Question for anyone who has moved from #vim to #neovim: why?
Serious question, I've never tried neovim but I'm increasingly running into references to it.
I've used 'vim' for over 20 years as my default and main editor of all things including code. What are the compelling reasons to go "neo" from your personal experience of making the transition?
Edit: bonus question: firing up nvim to edit a file feels just like using vim anyway, so it seems basically zero barrier to entry for basic vim functionality... so if one isn't already using a complex vim configuration the bonus question is: are there any downsides to neovim?
Good evening, Fediverse! I've just migrated from tech.lgbt to my own self hosted GoToSocial instance, and this feels like a great time to do an intro, because I also just turned 32 today!
I'm a #trans and #queer SRE working for a gaming company in Amsterdam (Netherlands), and I enjoy hacking on #kubernetes projects in my spare time (I write a lot of #helm charts and
#argocd apps). I've been in the hosting/platform/devops industry for around 13ish years and I'm still just as in love as I was before, though where I used to focus on Big Tech, I now focus on self-hosting k8s on metal. Ask me about self hosting whatever project you want, and I can probably point you in the right direction!
My main operating systems are MacOS and #Debian (love #linux dearly). I'm a #bash and #neovim user, but I cut my teeth on vi and later #vim and so those are still dear to my heart. I want to get more into #solarpunk projects in 2025 and I'm big on using #prometheus #homeassistant and #keda to accomplish those goals. I volunteer with #nextcloud (when I can) to help with their helm chart, and I also have a GitHub org called small-hack where I do a lot of FOSS work with @cloudymax! Always down to self host something new
My favorite language is #python
Ik spreek A1 Nederlands, maar ik wil A2 binnenkort. Oh, en mijn favoriet kleur is blauw. Leuk u te ontmoeten!
@scottjenson #UX is important.
UX is why #Apple runs circles around #Windows and #Linux in termsbof #accessibility and why I know people who'd genuinely be able.and willing to pay $500 per year for #macOS to be supported on non-Apple hardware!
Loving the #tailwindcss for #neovim plugin that colours the colour class names in the editor.
Vim user here, Emacs folks, what's the point of org-mode? Any vim compatible alternatives?
Continuing with my #neovim journey. There are a few things not in the lazy plugins that I want. I'm bookmarking them for a time when I'm brave enough to install.
v2.1.0 of my #evangelion #neovim #theme is released! updates include contrast fixes, color consistency, tweaks, and typo fixes
I'm Christin, I’m a proud #pansexual #trans woman living in #Portland, OR.
For the foreseeable future much of what I post will be political in nature but by no means exclusively.
I’m a freelance developer and still figuring out what the next step is.
I love the usual nerd stuff; sci-fi and fantasy, comics, gaming, etc. I'm a #Neovim convert and an #Obsidian fan. While I have been an #Apple girl for decades, I am adopting #Linux more and more.
I wish there was a lightweight GUI text editor supporting proportional fonts with #neovim keybindings and customization. I don't want to use monospace fonts when writing notes and documentation.
I should probably just use Emacs for this with a modal editing plugin, maybe meow.
@notsoloud same with all other #Linux distros.
Now granted, #NvChad is basically what happens when #neovim fans want to make a better alternative to #emacs.
For most people, using #fish as in fish shell with #tmux and some extras could yield the same...
