Today:

- I had a wonderful treat. Went to an NZ Opera Co performance of Mansfield Park, a chamber opera based on Jane Austen’s novel. It was brilliant! Wonderful singers and all round great show. I really appreciated that they did an afternoon performance, as fatigue means I struggle with evening events.

- I enjoyed my morning walk

- leftovers made for an easy but delicious dinner

Recommend for an android web browser to replace Firefox?

I've heard of:

#vivaldi #libreWolf #waterfox #zen #opera

Not all of them have #Android clients which is a requirement for me.

What's the preferred privacy-focused non-ad #browser these days for phones?

I liked Firefox after I left chrome, and now Vivaldi seems acceptable so far.

I don't need sync, would like extensions, and I have to be able to use external password manager.

Classical composer Edmund Dédé was born in New Orleans in 1827 but left the city for France in the 1850s as the rights of Black people in the U.S. became more restricted in the years before the Civil War. In Bordeaux, where he had a prestigious position at the Grand Théâtre, he wrote his grand opera, "Morgiane." But after his death in 1902, the manuscript vanished. It was discovered in Harvard's archive in 2007 and is believed to be the first complete opera by an African American. Last week, it had its concert premiere, co-produced by Opera Lafayette and OperaCréole. Here's @CNN's story about the losing and finding of the piece. Honestly I never really got the whole opera thing, but now I am suspecting they were teaching it wrong in Music class. This book was a wild ride, more adventurous than any novel a writer could have come up with. Da Ponte is a holy fool, a hopeless romantic, a charming idiot, an annoying genius, an easy mark, a talented poet, a self-absorbed weirdo, and an all-around fascinating character.
