Up close and personal vol 3.

This photo is from my next film "Face to Face with Orcas" broadcast in March. It is a hunting image during a feeding of about thirty orcas and two humpback whales in Norway in January last year. You can see on the pic my friend Rodolphe Guignard who is the protagonist of my film. The water temperature was about 3 degrees celsius (37 Fahrenheit) and choppy, choppy, choppy :-)

How I took this photo ? First, It was damn cold and I've been lucky. Canon R5 Sigma 20 mm Art f1,4 1/100e f2,8 Iso 8000 Raw Manual

There was jubilation in my neighborhood when we saw she had a new baby, and devastation when it died. We feel her grief like a physical pain. Southern Resident orcas are critically endangered, currently numbering only 73.

'Last month, scientists and whale watchers spotted orcas (Orcinus orca) in South Puget Sound and off Point No Point in Washington State swimming with dead fish on their heads.

This is the first time they've donned the bizarre headgear since the summer of 1987, when a trendsetting female West Coast orca kickstarted the behavior for no apparent reason. '

ORCAS AND DOLPHINS DO NOT BELONG IN CAPTIVITY!

Keeping #dolphins, #orcas and other cetaceans in #captivity is cruel. Depriving them of the vast open spaces and social bonds that they would normally have in the wild, and confining them to small, concrete #tanks to perform tricks for dead fish is highly unethical for these complex marine mammals. No matter how sophisticated the enclosure, no man made facility can ever hope to replicate the wild world of dolphins and whales.
