My employer is continuing to pursue increased sales to the US government, so for ethical reasons I'm fully on the job market now.

I am an experienced #devOps engineer, having worked exclusively with #AWS. I have extensive experience in #terraform and #openTofu with significant #Ansible work as well. I've used the full alphabet soup of AWS services: VPC, EC2, S3, ACM, KMS, IAM, RDS, Route53, SNS, SES, SQS, WAF, and many more. I also am familiar with the various monitoring, alerting, and on-call platforms, most notably CloudWatch, DataDog, and Pager Duty. I also have management and project management experience, leading teams and projects at the application and architectural levels.

I do not, unfortunately, have experience with K8s or EKS, so any potential position would need to accept a ramp-up time if those are part of the infrastructure ecosystem. I am a fast learner, and I have a solid engineering expertise to build off of.

My primary need is a fully #remote position for family reasons. As my profile states, I am based in the Twin Cities area in US Central time. I am fully authorized to work in the US without employer support.

It’s wild to me that it’s taken this long for me to sort out local hostnames on my LAN. I’ve always done without, using bare IPs and bookmarks like an animal

Finally got this automated in #k3s and #opentofu by patching into my #pihole to register the hostname. Strange being able to then access the host on my phone of all places. I know this probably seems trivial to most people but it’s novel for me

Next would be getting it to work through #tailscale with sidecars.. though I wonder what the benefit would be of that over just having a single Tailscale node in the cluster allowing routing to all k3s pods and their hostnames..

And we're up! The #k3s cluster now has a dashboard, #nginx ingress (bye Traefik) and a pretty repeatable configuration if I say so myself.

Config restarts on the k3s side seem to work, and all the expected #terraform #kubernetes resources apply without issue, including the ingress side of things.

Next up will be getting nice local domains working within my LAN..

Day 344. When importing an #Azure Public DNS Zone into the #Terraform state, the import will fail if you use 'dnszones' instead of 'dnsZones' in the resource ID, even though that is exactly how the ID gets represented in the #Azure Portal's data model view.

That feeling when you forget to change a naming var from "stg" to "prod" in #terraform and kick off a loooong running apply knowing you have to reapply to destroy and recreate all the resources as soon as it completes. #aws

Day 343. Sometimes it is not possible to delete an #Azure Kubernetes Service node pool because that would violate pod disruption budgets of workloads in that cluster. But when you try to delete that node pool through #Terraform, Terraform would not register that error and only time out after 60 minutes.

Seeing four rabbit holes named #pentesting , #proxmox, #terraform and #ansible and start to dig at all four may have not been the wisest choice to make. So much new stuff to learn, it's kind of intimidating. But actually my brain feels very much alive.

I just need to organize the topics and other things a bit better, otherwise I lose track of stuff.... And I need to stick to note keeping. And in a few months I need a break from tech stuff. Maybe.

Any recommendations for a tool to lint Terraform files, most specifically tpl files? We recently had a syntax error in the JSON for a template file, and I want a linter that can flag that #terraform

Day 331. As we have covered before (shits from day 32, 121 & 311, for example), #Azure usually doesn't care about consistency in spelling of resource type names or resource ID segments, but don't YOU dare do that as well. You will immediately fail some arbitrary validation as seen here in the Azure #Terraform provider.
