I finally finished this custom USB Controller using a 12 position switch. The customer will be using it as a USB MIDI Controller where they want to select 11 different settings.

It's a bit taller than I'd like but the switch is pretty tall and I need a certain amount of space for the PCB and controller.

The enclosure is 3D printed and so is the knob. The multi-color prints for both came out great.

I've just listened to an #ITSecurity presentation, which gave me a few more nightmares to worry about.

First, there is #Shodan , a search engine for the #Internet (as opposed to the World Wide Web), aka "how to find hackable things on the Internet". If you have any devices accessible via the Internet - such as security cameras - it can probably be found there. And there are numerous people and companies who leave these devices unsecured - as the presenter demonstrated.

Also, #USB cables exist which look like the real thing but contain secret WLAN access for hackers. They cost around $200 these days, and can only be distinguished from the real thing by #CT scans.

* Zwei #Powerbanks sind ideal für mich! Groß für Reichweite, klein & schnell für Flexibilität. 🥇

* Gutes #USB-Verlängerungskabel und wissen, welches #Ladegerät was kann, rockt! 💪

It's apparently National Sticker Day so here's something I came up with as a practical application: USBoo.

Marking the port in this manner indicates that it still works, but is slightly haunted.

I have a whole sheet of these stickers, but if I start marking every bit of haunted technology in here, I'd run out fast. It's magic smoke and ghosts all the way down.

LOL🤣 , if anyone is able to "conveniently" extract the link from the pic alt text → PLEASE TELL ME! Seriously, i'd like to know how you did it, "conveniently"! 😉

For everyone else; here's the URL from the #Ruideng UM34(c) #USB tester QR code → mediafire.com/folder/5c877rc21 ← that's where you'll find the "UM Meter" #Android app APK, and a few docs

General #Linux #PC question, tho I reckon it's not to do with the OS really - I plugged in a hard drive (using a #USB 3 enclosure with dedicated power) to the back of my PC (USB 3.2 Gen 2 port). I mounted it easily and started copying some big files over to the hard disk. The problem is, often after some time the copying process would just freeze indefinitely and the hard drive itself might get unmounted by its own.

The drive is good, and why I don't think it's OS related is because it happens on
#macOS on my #MacBook too, and the same drive also does its job just fine when plugged into a separate Linux PC of mine, a much weaker one. My guess is it's more to do with USB/bandwidth of some kind since my primary PC is hooked to a lot of devices like trackpad, mice, 2 capture cards (camera and #SteamDeck), audio interface, etc.

While my other unaffected PC is only connected to a single keyboard and mouse or something like that. My Mac, when the issue happens (with multiple drives/enclosures), has nothing else connected to it but that's not my concern for now since I've just found all my Macs, old and new been unreliable when it comes to USBs or even Bluetooth.

Anything I could do to reliably copy/move over stuffs between my PC and hard drive without having the drive freeze/unmount itself?
