A fmr #AirForce fighter pilot, Maj Anthony Bourke, added: “When you disclose operational security, people can get killed.” He said that “these things are not taken lightly. I have never met anybody in the #military who does not know this.”

#Hegseth, a fmr #FoxNews weekend host, served as a #NationalGuard infantryman.

Cmdr Parker Kuldau, a fmr #Navy F/A18 pilot, called Hegseth’s disclosures, & subsequent response to them, “infuriating.”

The news that snr ofcls in the #Trump admin discussed plans on #Signal, a commercial messaging app, for an impending attack angered & bewildered those who have taken to the air on behalf of the #US.

The mistaken inclusion of the editor of #TheAtlantic in the chat & #Hegseth’s insistence that he did nothing wrong by disclosing the secret plans upend decades of #military doctrine about #OperationalSecurity, a dozen #AirForce & #Navy fighter pilots said.

Friday Night Massacre in the Military

"Friday night, the head of the #JointChiefs of Staff (who is black) & the Navy's top admiral (who is female) were fired, along with the most senior Judge Advocates General ( #JAGS) for the #Army, #Navy, & #AirForce...

Is #DonaldTrump trying to turn the military into a #political weapon...

The Founding Fathers created a #military with civilian leadership to minimize the prospect of a takeover by a military strongman."

Rosa Brooks, a law professor at Georgetown, succinctly summed up #Trump’s goal in a comment she posted on X. Citing the firing on Feb 21 of top lawyers for the #Army, #Navy & #AirForce, Brooks wrote, “It’s what you do when you’re planning to break the #law: you get rid of any lawyers who might try to slow you down.”

“…#Trump’s decision to fire snr #military leaders w/o cause is foolish & a disgrace. It politicizes our professional military in a dangerous & debilitating way. What frightens me even more is the removal of 3 judge advocates general [#JAG], the most snr uniformed #legal authorities in the #Defense Dept. Their removal is one more element of this admin’s attack on the rule of #law, &…especially disturbing….”

Gen #CQBrown spoke of how most of his mentors could not relate to his experience as a #Black man. He spoke of wondering whether airmen who have not had similar experiences “don’t see #racism as a problem because it doesn’t happen to them, or whether they’re empathetic.”

Gen Brown finished by talking about the weight he felt as the first African American nominated to be chief of the #AirForce. #Trump had nominated him for that position, on Esper’s recommendation.

Gen #CQBrown spoke of “living in 2 worlds, both w/their own perspectives & views.” He described what those worlds were like for him. He & his sister were the only #Black children at his elementary school, he said, & they tried to fit in. In their HS, half of the students were Black & they still tried to fit in.

“I’m thinking about my #AirForce career, where I was often the only African American in my squadron, or, as a senior officer, the only African American in the room,” he said.

Against a dark background, a solemn Gen #CQBrown, clad in fatigues, stared into the camera, & said this: “As the commander of Pacific Air Forces, & a senior leader in our #AirForce, & an African American, many of you may be wondering what I’m thinking about the current events surrounding the tragic death of #GeorgeFloyd,” Gen Brown began. “Here’s what I’m thinking about.”
