21/03/2025 - Evening walk after work. I felt tired today. The air was good for the head. Cloudy and not too cold. Staying light for longer now so didn't need the headtorch. Saw my first Dog's Mercury of spring. I've been looking for them the last week as we don't get much round here. A nice find that made me happy.

19/03/2025 - Cold night on the hill. We took the scope with us on our evening walk. The sky was clear but slightly hazy. Tonight's photo is of the flaming star nebula. Whilst waiting (photo took about 2hrs) the aurora popped by to say hello. Quick snap with my camera (bit wobbly as I didn't have my tripod), it didn't last long but it was nice.

18/03/2025 - We had another visit to the Pacman Nebula tonight. This time no moon and clear sky. Really happy with the photo. Nebula looks so nice and the amount of stars round it, wow! The night sky really is a big place just full of lovely stuff. We tried a new dark spot on the hill this evening, not as far as my ankle is still a problem. Turned out a pretty good place for the scope.

1 hour photo of the Pacman nebula in a night sky full of stars. It's reddish and shaped a bit like Pacman. I'm really happy with the photo as the sky doesn't get that dark so close to the city. Little wind tonight but it was chilly.

12/02/2025 - Evening walk to shake away the working day. Twilight just a little bit later now. The full moon was hiding behind the clouds. A sleepy pheasant in a tree. I had snacks in my pocket to get me to tea.

05/02/2025 - An evening spent galaxy hopping. We walked up the hill with the scope. Found a quiet spot and tried to take photos of some of the galaxies round Ursa Major. The moon was high so the sky wasn't that dark and a bit hazy maybe. We were there for about 3hrs, chilly but we had fun.

(...was trying to get some bird shots, but just too cold & too low light and... oh man, _that_ sky!)

The lake surface is almost still and partially frozen. The clear sky and calm reflections have an intense pink color during these few minutes of sunset. Forests in the background.

Last walk of the year. Up and round the hill. We took tea with us and sat in the dark, munching away and chatting about the year. It has had its ups and downs but we have made it through.

Take care out there everyone.

Night sky and dark on the hill. There's a small stone tower on top and I'm messing about with my headtorch, making wobbly light trails. The plough is just behind the tower.

On the way home. Not too cold or windy, that comes tomorrow. A faint green glow of the northern lights in a pretty cloudy sky. A nice way to end the year.

27/12/2024 - Evening visit to Tap o' Noth. A fine hill in Aberdeenshire with a magic hillfort on top. Cloudy but we saw a few stars later. Temperature starting to drop now after the last few mild days. We reached the trigpoint about an hour after sunset. We sat within the ramparts and had our tea and a brew. An hour flew by and the sky turned dark. It was time to make our way down and home. A magic visit, I like this place very much.

On the track up Tap o' Noth (you can see the hill in the distance in the photo) we came across a small yellow sign on a gate, it read 'Grampian Amateur Teleportation Society - Assembly Point'!! I have no idea but it made me smile.

Sunset behind the hill called the Buck. It was red and orange. Very nice this evening.

One of us standing by the trigpoint on top of the hill. The trigpoint is on the big ramparts of an old hillfort. It's vitrified and ancient (sing along time!). The far hill is Ben Rinnes. The photo makes it look quite light but it's nearly an hour past sunset and really a good bit darker then this. Nearly headtorch time.

After sitting for an hour having our tea, it was time to head down. Photo is of one of us lighting the trigpoint with a headtorch in the dark.

22/11/2024 - Evening walk after tea. It was a little below chilly tonight. Bit icy underfoot. The stars were nice. Happy the working week is done. Tomorrow's weather looks rubbish so it was good to get out this evening for a few hours.
