Ranger Sarah at Cave #3. The wood beams you can see are the original beams the Mongollon used to build their roofs. A "plug" removed from one of the beams was used to date the structure to the 1280's.

Far mountains are covered in snow, lots of clouds in the pale blue sky. Marsh area with dried reeds in front.

Wider angle of the snowy mountains, very blue, and grassland in forefront. Lots of clouds! Apparently I used a portrait mode for this shot, so there's an interesting effect of the peripherals being out of focus.

Four guys from the Twin Cities, went to the SD badlands for an adventure.

The purpose of this trip was:
1. To get away from normal life and to get refreshed a little bit.
2. To hike.
3. To learn some new photography techniques.

South Dakota Badlands Beautiful Afternoon

Four guys from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, went to the SD badlands for an early spring adventure.

The purpose of this trip was:
1. To get away from normal life and to get refreshed a little bit.
2. To hike.
3. To learn some new photography techniques.
4. And to capture a certain picture that I had in my minds eye.

That certain picture was to be the majestic badlands (The grand canyon of the Midwest) in morning or evening light, you know, sunrise or sunset time frame.

Well it was only the first evening that we were there. The light conditions were not what I was looking for. So while I did not get the perfect shot, I did have a great adventure.

The South Dakota Badlands are a rugged, otherworldly landscape of eroded rock formations, deep canyons, and sprawling prairies. Located in Badlands National Park, this region is famous for its striking layered rock formations, which display vibrant hues of red, orange, yellow, and white due to sediment deposits over millions of years. The dramatic scenery was shaped by wind and water erosion, creating jagged peaks, towering spires, and deep ravines.
