Good morning. 📷🧵🐦

19 March 2025

Tomorrow is the first day of spring. Spring will be here when tomorrow is today—hurray.

Lately, I’ve been daydreaming about a new camera—a Canon R5 mirrorless model paired with a Canon 200-800 mm lens. Truth be told, it’s really just the lens I want, but it’s not compatible with my existing cameras, and there are no adapters to make it work. It’s funny how hobbies create the perfect excuse to buy new things. I already own four cameras—not counting my phone or the little Sony camera gathering dust in the upper cabinet of my desk. Let’s be honest, a new camera is far from a necessity.

For my wife, it’s all about sewing and quilting machines. It’s as if certain businesses saw hobbies as untapped gold mines and thought, “I can make money from that.”

If anyone happens to know, what kind of tools would I need to start out with whittling or small-scale wood carving? I'm assuming that balsa is the recommended starter wood, I can get cubes and other such shapes of it fairly easily. I don't currently have any knives I would trust to be sharp enough (and I probably need to learn how to sharpen a knife properly, I have a sharpening stone but I don't really know how to use it), but I'm also not sure if there's specific types that work better.

So many things I want to do, as I start re-engaging with my hobbies. Planning to sit down tonight with my knitting project bag, and figure out where I was at on my projects when I last worked on them, years ago.

Want to start working on my astrophotography gear soon, to have it prepped for slightly warmer spring weather, and finally put some real light through my "new" gear.

Also still want to try and figure out an indoor antenna solution that I can use in my apartment and at least get SOME contacts on HF. That may be a lost cause though.

And that's just the top three things on my mind right now. So many other things bouncing around in my brain as well.
