Hey #indieweb - looking for recommendations for static #hosting. Optimally I'd like to pay a couple of bucks a month (<$8? <$5?) to host < 1 GB of static files - it's normally very low transfer, though with scrapers these days who knows. I don't really need any scripting or email or anything fancy, just a place to scp files to. I want both the company and the servers to be based in Canada or friendly countries. Smaller companies welcome. What do you use and like?
We’re excited to announce that, from Monday, we’re going to be the new admins of IndieWeb.social!
We’ve always loved how @tchambers has run IndieWeb.social. His direction has made it one of the best instances on the Fediverse!
Thanks to Tim for his trust in us to provide a safe and secure home for the server into the future.
Tim’s Blog Post https://www.timothychambers.net/2025/03/27/the-next-stage-for-indiewebsocial.html
It's been a few years since I built my website using Jekyll. It's starting to get stale. I learned a lot about IndieWeb while setting up, so I don't regret using it!
But the overhead of the build is starting to get to me. Longing for something that I perceive as simpler - paid services like micro.blog or omg.lol - or maybe 11ty. Not sure I can give up control to a paid service for my main site.
How to get my blog updates in a feed that contains only what you want to see.
1) get a free RSS reader app. If you're on iOS, NetNewsWire and feeeed is good. on Android, feeder. On desktop; Lifrea or Fluent (there are many others).
2) copy paste this link:
https://honora.neocities.org/RSS.xml
3) Click "new" and paste it in your RSS reader.
4) you now receive a link to my blog posts with a short preview of what it's about, and a link to the full post.
I tried to summarize some of my Recurse Center activities for the last 12 weeks in a blog post and still probably forgot some stuff because it was jam packed with amazing people, pairing, projects, and study groups.
tl;dr - I did lots of stuff, really enjoyed my time, and plan to continue learning and growing
New post up on my website https://librarymonster.io !
#Chocolate & #bread themed cell phone case
I link to my tools & supplies, and put together a 4 min video of it (time lapsed, bc this took a bit over an hour).
So if Section 230 gets repealed (ugh), my understanding is:
1. You can post anything you want on your own website and are personally liable for it.
2. If you host comments (syndicated or otherwise) you could be liable for what's said in those.
So the answer might be an #indieweb style interconnected blogosphere (yes, I said blogosphere) and more peer to peer style interfaces for #activitypub etc.
Issue #4 of the HTML Review, an annual journal of "literature made to exist on the web".
Cool things you can do in Mastodon and perhaps you weren't aware of:
* Create an RSS link from any Mastodon profile
* Validate your profile easily using your personal domain
* Use a column interface à là Tweetdeck (RIP)
Share your favorite use cases!

if i get the inspiration i work on static websites, most notably my personal site, dokokashira.nl (that needs to be updated asap because of how many outdated things there are

help #indieweb people, I'm fiddling with adding different bits to my site and I am clearly missing something with the h-feed thing. If you're bored later I would appreciate it if you took a look.
Just renewed the Libre.fm domain name for another year.
Thank you to everyone who donated in the last year and a big thank you to the people who have a recurring donation.
https://libre.fm/donate.php if anyone wants to chip in.
The main costs right now are a domain name and offsite backups for the data.
Right now our hosting costs are basically $0 but I am looking at getting a pair of dedicated servers to improve performance and that’s going to cost $100 a month or so.
I have #WordPress set up. Now I just need to #IndieWeb it.
I'm checking out free web hosting providers that can be used for fun and personal websites.
I wanted to know what to recommend to people who want to make their own website, so I decided to try things out for myself!

Some great points here about email newsletters — including that email open stats are starting to become unreliable due to AI and big tech like Apple screwing around with the inbox (no, email is not immune to enshittification!). All this is part of why I moved away from calling my site Cybercultural a "newsletter". I'm not exactly sure how to define Cybercultural currently, but it will involve fediverse as a community-driver going forward. #IndieWeb #WebLife2025
Would a Zoom call where you join a handful of folks to solve #CSS and #HTML conundrums interest you? I learn something new #FrontEnd every time. Front End Study Hall on the #IndieWeb -- See you tomorrow! https://events.indieweb.org/2025/03/front-end-study-hall-023-WmHNZ7nKEp1Z
this is it, folks! we are in the final week before submissions are due for GOOD INTERNET, a new print periodical magazine about all the things that make the #web fun: things like the #smallweb, the fediverse, the #indieweb, and efforts to actively fight #enshittification. submissions are open until MARCH 15.
check the submission guidelines or sign up for email alerts to be notified when we publish in may!

if this is your first time hearing about this, you still have enough time to come up with and write an article or complete a digital #art piece, if you're passionate about the #internet and want to write about it! :) bloggers, it's your time to shine!~
i can't wait to show y'all the incredible stories that have been submitted from all over the 'net, and some of the coolest art i've seen about the web!
thank you to everyone who's been so supportive of this project already. this is why this side of the internet is amazing. please boost, if you can; i want to make sure i did everything i could to include as many diverse voices as i can.
thank you!
