Attention, blind Akkoma users! I will be writing to the developer with my concerns about a few problems with accessibility on this platform. Most should be easy to resolve. Please let me know if you find any more, and also state what browser and screen reader you are using. Note: This is in reference to the site itself, not to your client of choice. I will post about that separately. For the record, I use NVDA with Firefox.

  1. Many buttons are unlabelled and simply say "button". This is true on the main page as well as when viewing posts and tabs in profiles. Most work once pressed. They just need to be labelled.
  2. Searching for people, tags, groups, and posts is inaccessible. I can enter the edit field and write my text, but then, there are two unlabelled buttons next to that. The first simply takes me back to the edit field. The second does nothing. I am assuming this is a submit button that doesn't work via the keyboard.
  3. It is impossible to view followers, as well as those whom I follow. I can see the numbers of each but not the people and groups themselves.
  4. I cannot read my own profile without editing it. There appears to be no link where I can simply view it, either as myself or anonymously. If I go to my page and am not logged in, however, I can view it. I can also easily edit it when logged in.
  5. The page renders very differently in Chrome than in Firefox. In Chrome, I can't see anything but my notifications, so I can't get to my page or the other timelines.

Sighted friends: I'm working on my new website, and I'm using the attached picture as the featured image on my homepage. It's of me holding my 10-year-old male Miniature Pinscher, Squeaker. Can someone suggest some good alt text for it? I'd ask my mom, who's the one who took it, but she's not great at this kind of thing, and I don't know where she is. I tried asking #JAWS PictureSmart, but it kept pointing out unimportant things in the room and didn't say much about Squeaker.

Wow, I just tried the #WordPress desktop app v8.0.4 for #Windows, and it has major #accessibility issues with both #JAWS and #NVDA. I kept having to OCR the window and click on the edit fields before I could type because otherwise, neither one would see them. And if I alt+Tabbed away and back, they'd act like there was nothing in the window and I wouldn't be able to navigate around until I OCR'd the window and clicked on something again. Lol what a mess! I think I'll stick to the website!

Hey everyone! I'm curious to hear from fellow JAWS screen reader users about your favorite ways to utilize the Split Braille feature. Personally, I love using it in Outlook view—it allows me to quickly check my emails since I can read the text of the email on one side of my Braille display while having the message list on the other side.
What about you? What are your go-to uses for this feature? Looking forward to your insights!

Just updated to #JAWS 2025. The bug I was experiencing with semi-auto forms mode in which JAWS would enter forms mode when checking a radio button in particular when hitting space on it has been fixed. I'm ridiculously happy to have semi-auto forms mode back and functioning again!
