Here they are again! Arctic sweet coltsfoot (Petasites frigidus) on a warm sunny PNW day. I decided the dog and I should check out the muddy trails to see if anything was finally blooming, and anything was!

Some blue-green lichen (possibly Hypogymnia and Platismatia spp) growing on a fallen branch in the park. There were several trees felled by the windstorms, blocking the main trails. I would guess trees fell in most of the parks because the wind were strong and from an unusual direction.

Walking along the street to Cowen Park, I chanced upon a Pacific yew tree (Taxus brevifolia). It was pretty fair sized. I usually only see shrubby yew hedges, so seeing a tree was interesting. I also liked its symmetrical leaves and pretty seed cones. Apparently, the soft aril is edible, but the seeds are toxic as is the rest of the plant.
