The symbolism of the Evil Eye I did not know much about the Evil Eye protection until I lived in Italy. I had seen the good luck charm but had not known its history. After someone recommended that I got one I looked closer into the believes and history behind it. After over two years in this pandemic, I started to create good luck charm drawings. They pop up all around us just before we cross over to the new year. I love what another artist wrote, she creates them to promote good karma and to encourage people to live their most meaningful lives. How beautiful is that?! “Belief in the evil eye is ancient and ubiquitous; it occurred in ancient Greece and Rome, in Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and Hindu traditions, and in indigenous, peasant, and other folk societies, and it has persisted throughout the world into modern times.” Britannica

"Cracked Ice" is inspired by February in Ukraine. The word "лютий" in the Ukrainian language is an adjective that means "very angry" or "furious." This month is particularly harsh because it is shorter than the others. It seems to want winter to last all year, even though spring is coming! The colors used are cool shades of light and dark grey-blue. The edges of the ice chunks are intentionally sharp and aggressive-looking, while the deep blue represents the danger of the ice-cold depths below.
