I always wondered why most EU countries seemed to have nicer things, and better lives than most Americans, despite having lower per capita GDPs when I was younger.

I realized when I studied American #economics that it was because of income disparity.

All the GDP gets stuck at the top, and never enters the hands of most Americans, so most are overall more poor. Also military spending, and corruption has a lot to do with it.

The American Dream is more of a lottery than #work.

I finally made a super sour loaf! Bread 15B came from a stiff (acetic acid) starter and sat in the fridge for about a week with a bunch of time out of the fridge to age an have its delicious bacteria from just right. I added olives an pecans to it with wheat germ around the outside. The bread is flavorful enough to hold it's own against the olives!

Though I would also share some work projects- the "No 79" is going to some fancy Manhattan development and will be outside, with housings. Should look good- and with 3 bars on the ground floor of this new residential building, I may actually go see my work when it's installed an have a drink :) Big ruby numbers- it WILL be seen.
All that and the "ANCY"- a test for this new Spielberg movie was 1 days work (along with some email sending). Feels good to put in a full days work an be able to share with you all :)

A slice into bread 15B. Lots of aging means not the biggest rise. You can see the pecans and olives I put inside of it. It leaves behind an interesting sour almost bitter aftertaste

Great letter in the Guardian this morning pointing out, that its not disabled people not wanting to work that is the major problem, its employers being unwilling to employ them that is a more serious impediment for those with health issues who wish to get back into work....

But of course, as always a political class that would rather work with economic models of individuals than look at what's really happening in the world, often misses this simple point!

There is no doubt that the disability benefits system is broken – but not in the ways the government suggests (Editorial, 18 March). The current system is hostile, inefficient and difficult to navigate – often worsening the physical and mental health of claimants, through energy-depleting assessment and appeal processes, gaslighting and having to fight to be seen. The government suggests that the way to get disabled people into work is to invest more in job coaches – as though the disabled community simply lack confidence to hunt for jobs. In reality, it is employers who lack confidence to take us on. To find one that can offer minimal hours (for someone with long Covid) or provide multiple sick days a month (for regular hospital visits) is almost impossible. If the government is serious about improving access to work for the disabled community, this is where investment needs to happen. We need something like the apprenticeship scheme, whereby employers would receive financial support to employ people with limited capacity for work – providing us with a fair living wage on reduced hours. This could unlock the talents of the educated and brilliant disabled community. Name and address supplied
