Finished Careless People last night. It’s a really compelling read, continually surprising and horrifying. The author is certainly complicit by her involvement and naïveté, but at least she gave us this view from the inside. Definitely recommend.

I have a strange story about Facebook tracking and cookies I guess, maybe it was my IP address?

My brother had blocked me on Facebook at some point, then I deleted my Facebook in 2020. Then my brother died in the fall of 2021. We wrote an obituary and it was put on the webpage for the funeral home. Someone made a comment and I replied, then when someone made another comment and I replied my reply wouldn’t show up.

The next day when my repy still hadn’t appeared I emailed the funeral home and they told me that I was somehow blocked but they fixed it.

And then later on someone told me his Facebook page had been changed to a memorial page, which is super weird because I didn’t contact them and I was PR for the estate.

SOMEHOW FACEBOOK CONNECTED TO MY BROTHERS OBITUARY AND BLOCKED ME FROM COMMENTING ON IT.

I’m just glad the funeral home could fix it because there’s no way I was going to call Facebook and deal with all that in the middle of everything else and I would have felt rude if I was unable to reply to people I didn’t know how to contact otherwise.

Just deleted my #Facebook account. I never used Facebook until I published my first book in 2023, and I was told (by my publisher, by other authors) that I needed to create a Facebook author page, so I did. I tried posting and updating it at first, but, to be honest, I never found it useful, and it's a relief to simply delete it now. I've always found way more engagement here on #mastodon #bookstodon

I deleted a facebook page I had made to post my work. It was low hanging fruit because I stopped posting there anyway, but I didn't want to leave the information hanging around. Many artists feel like an instagram presence is important, but I'm sure new options will emerge eventually.
