In our recent episode, I learned that a #bobcat & a Canadian #lynx can reproduce (creating a hybrid called a Blynx)!

And, uh, well, we should prob leave them alone (you know, since scientists put a tracking collar on one too tightly in 2003 and it starved to death 😢 )

So now that bit.ly is showing ads, if you need a URL shortener, #lynx is decent and #accessible and easy to host. And before you tell me that we don't need URL shorteners anymore and how they're a security risk, I need them for:
1. Business cards, slides, signs, and other physical objects that need a URL. While most phones can scan QR Codes, you can't read them out loud for #blind folks. If you're doing a presentation, "scan the QR code on screen" isn't good enough. You need to have a URL that you can speak and another human can remember. Yes, NFC is a thing, but it doesn't solve that problem.
2. Places that still don't allow URLs (LinkedIn) or where long URLs are awkward to work with (text-only emails, the terminal, etc.)
3. Times (like a phone call) where I need to tell someone a URL using the noises that come from my face-parts

Les lynx blessés, ou retrouvés orphelins, ont besoin des centres de soins.

@kyonshi #ScotGov noticed that at least four #lynx were "illegally" released in the highlands, and have captured two of them. And they are threatening all sorts of vague consequences if anyone dares to release more, but it is already far too late. And they have been warned for the last ten years at least this was going to happen if they didn't stop dragging their feet on #rewilding issues. #FAFO

@Gargron I wonder if all of this now slop, but eventually "great", AI crap will start pushing people back to using #lynx and the like, or even #gopher. Why bother with images and videos any more when signal-to-noise ratio gets below a certain point.

With browsers we learned to use #adblock and the like, but how to #aiblock?

At this rate the only winning move might be just not to play, and move back to text based tools. Or enjoy your new friends if you never left 🙂
