Birdlife soars on nature-friendly #solar farms eastangliabylines.co.uk/enviro

Solar farm management influences breeding #bird responses in an arable-dominated landscape tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10

"hectare for hectare – solar farms situated in agriculturally dominated East Anglia contained a greater number of bird species and overall number of individuals than surrounding arable land."

'Researchers have developed a reactor that pulls carbon dioxide directly from the air and converts it into sustainable fuel, using sunlight as the power source. ... Unlike most carbon capture technologies, the reactor developed by the Cambridge researchers does not require fossil-fuel-based power, or the transport and storage of carbon dioxide, but instead converts atmospheric CO2 into something useful using sunlight."

'In a study published in Nature, researchers at Linköping University have developed a method to recycle all parts of a solar cell repeatedly without environmentally hazardous solvents. The recycled solar cell has the same efficiency as the original one. The solar cell is made of perovskite and the main solvent is water.'

A moment of appreciation for the technology that has for the last 9 years captured power beamed from a giant fusion reactor, and used it to power most of my home.

It has long since paid off all of the costs of purchase and installing in avoided utility bills, and it should keep running for another 10-20 years. Eventually efficiency will decrease noticeably, but so far there has been no significant decline in production.

When the day is clear and bright, and the vast fusion reactor in the sky is warming the house and casting photons upon the photovoltaic panels to make electricity, to which solar deity do you raise your face to feel their rays?

So, I have done A Thing which apparently is uncommon.

I have had the battery in my car replaced for a larger one, and I have had my old car battery (24kwh) installed in my home.

It is working incredibly well - I'm on a day/night tariff and it draws from the grid overnight on the cheap rates and feeds the house all day, with the help of a bit of sunshine through the panels.

In the summer, we could well run grid free depending on the weather!
