U.S. territories, such as Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, in my opinion should aim for statehood.

Staying a territory, just means jerks like Trump can disrespect you and not have to answer for it. While independence, means going it alone, while being viewed as a 3rd world country, and eventually treated as such.
