Speaking of #ThrowbackThursday my phone has been reminding me that's it's now been exactly one year since I ventured into the mountains of #SouthAfrica with my friend @murraylivingston to explore what the landscape there had to offer... To say it has lots of potential is still an understatement
This is a quick video from what I would say was the most incredible evening of #Photography I had last year. A highlight of the trip!
My old ‘76 Scout, man I drove that thing on many adventures, here heading for a four-day paddle on upper Lake Chelan. Wish I still owned it, sold it when I got tired of maintaining it. #ThrowbackThursday #GetOutside
For this week’s #throwbackthursday, here are The Lands of Zimara, a map commission from a few years ago.
For #ThrowbackThursday, a picture from the 2011 Bay to Breakers race.

The oldest piece of equipment in my lab, a >55 year old refractometer that I inherited from the lab next door when they retired in 2010. It consists of a light source and prisms and measures the concentration of dissolved substances by their ability to bend light through the prism. In virology, we use gradients of sucrose spun at high speeds to purify viruses which will settle at distinct sucrose densities as measured on the refractrometer. It still works.
One of my favorite moments of my entire life- witnessing this insane sunrise from 14k ft. on the summit of North Eolus in 2011.
A throwback to the first image I printed large. I was only a few months into owning a camera, when I shot this image.
I've since re-edited it to be more natural. My original version was a bit more inline with the teal/orange trends of the time. Embarrassingly i'd shifted all the greens towards a desaturated dull green and the bridge to a more orange brown... Oof. Glad I never really got hooked into that trend for long!
#ThrowbackThursday to five years ago when the newest cats in the household were being introduced to some of the old guard.
On the way up to the Great North Woods several years ago (May 2017). The entire field was a carpet of yellow and green! #ThrowbackThursday #Dandelions #NewHampshire
"Bevis had learned how to work the boat, to coax her, from the boat and the sails themselves... It requires time, continued observation, and keenest perception to learn from nature."
