@SecurityWriter there are alternatives: #Linux (espechally #UbuntuLTS).
- If they don't switch, then there is not enough pain and suffering to make them do the switch...
@SecurityWriter there are alternatives: #Linux (espechally #UbuntuLTS).
@dthacker9 @ai6yr @fuchsiii it's very cheap #upcycling based off me having some spares lying around, and those hp t620 barely sip 2W TDP / 10W total even if you benchmark them.
Plus they are #fanless and have USB 3.0 ports, so ample of resources to run a P H A T Srrver distro luke #UbuntuLTS....
@topher #Linux distros like #UbuntuLTS and #Tails are easier to use than trying.to get #Windows11 in a useable state.
@fennix @SitaDulip nodds in agreement I tend to use #UbuntuLTS since once setup and properly configured, it's basically 5+5 years (from date of release) of "install and forget"...
I usually tend to just setup a minimalist system in a VM and then just copy it over...
@SitaDulip AFAIK @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS Server should launch an #SSH Server to access it's installer at boot.
Basically you modify the #CloudInit configuration file.
Same can be done with Debian.
Either way, you'd setup a minimalist system as a bootable image you can #SSH into and yoink that onto the target system to boot.
dd
the virtual HDD into an image you can then dd
onto the target machine.If time isn't critical, any halfway decent flashdrive will do, otherwise a 2,5" SSD (in a USB Caddy) is an option as well...
@ravirockks OFC they don't.
At best they show people how to change fan curves in the #UEFI or hiw to run #memtest86+, but mostly they just "teach" people how to consume #Windows and at best #macOS and that's it.
Same with @libreoffice / #LibreOffice & @thunderbird / #Thunderbird.
@topher @nekohayo Yeah, I really hate that change as well, because I constantly used Radiance theme with top-fixed #MenuBar on #UbuntuLTS till they canceled that in 18.04 LTS...
@susannelilith Also ich würde da neben @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS ansonsten @bunsenlabs / #BunsenlabLinux und vorallem @tails_live / @tails / #Tails raten...
Weil @OS1337 ist eher nen Project von mir aus Spaß...
@douglevin see, this is why I act aus "#BenevolentDictator" and literally lockdown stuff so hard #TechIlliterates cant fuck up!
I wasted 15+ years of my life trying to make #Windows somewhat secure to come to terms with the fact that ut's an #unfixable #Givware that is #UnsafeAtAnyConfiguration / #InsecureAtAnyConfiguration.
On the flipside I've seen cases where #Scam|my Sales Reps were able to upsell some 5-digit 21,5" gaming monster to a photographer that uses ACDSee to do minimalist editing of their JPEGs.
At least I won't deal with #Windows11 or any of that shite because noone is gonna pay me enough to loose my sanity over such a garbage software!
@tux @meshuggahmischell @ubuntu @fdroidorg
@mjdxp @efi @puppygirlhornypost2 personally, I'm glad that I only need #UbuntuLTS, but if I ever were to supoort #RHEL or #SLED I'd just use my existing developer agreements which allow me to setup as many installs as I like for testing, development, support and evaluation pending I don't use them "in production" aka. run my business off them.
In terms of commercial distros I'd actually consider buying a subscription, #Ubuntu is the option I'd consider given it's entirely optional to get their commercial support and the only difference besides support are few addon features, and not entirely different distros that have vast differences between the "open" and "commercial" offerings in terms of underlying architecture.
