“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” ~ Frederick Douglass

Benjaminus Ficcus
A majestic tree with sprawling roots and hanging moss and tendrils descending to spread roots. The scene is a serene landscape, depicting a Benjaminus Ficcus in a grassy garden under a bright sky at the Immigration Museum in São Paulo. It's the multiple trunks that fascinate me!

I love admiring exposed #tree #RootSystems in forests. I find them quite beautiful & very interesting. They are one of many essential life veins in our biodiverse #forests. I'll never grow tired of appreciating tree #roots

An onion and garlic, in watercolour, on a wooden chopping board. I love the taste of these root vegetables as seasoning! A constant presence for cooking in my kitchen.
Watercolour on 100% cotton paper.
An original composition by James McCormack.
Wanda Sykes' line has one of the oldest free black people DNA ever found, according to the host of "Finding Your Roots": "the only such case that I know of in which it is possible to trace a black family rooted in freedom from the late 17th century to the present."
The other guest, John Legend, who is only one year older than me (wow) had some ancestors who were freed when their owners freed them in their "Final Will and Testament" and some slave owners left them money and property.
And Legend's ancestor bought back his family -- younger kids and escaped North to Ohio.
But then some white supremacists came knocking at his house with an in the middle of the night, shot the dad and ran off with the kids to sell them back into slavery in Kentucky. And the courts eventually ruled in their favor. These were interesting cases because they preceded both the legal freeing of slaves and Civil War.
