From C16, the Barnstaple (north Devon) tile industry produced lead-glazed relief tiles for local churches as well as ones in Cornwall. At least 64 designs defined by Keen (1969). These, found in Launcells, Cornwall, include fleur-de-lys, swan, heads, lion, as well as several flower designs.

Part of a tiled pavement in a church. The tiles are in shades of orangey brown and feature several designs.

Gestern habe ich mich doch mal wieder an die Portraitfotografie getraut.

Schwarzweißfotografie im Format 3:2 waagerecht.
Portrait eines Höckerschwans (Cygnus olor). Zu sehen sind Kopf und der obere Teil des Halses. Kurz vor der Aufnahme war der Kopf unter Wasser. An der Schnabelspitze tropft Wasser herunter. Am fein gefiederten Hals sind viele kleine Wasserperlen verteilt.

For #MythologyMonday -- how about the #Roman myth of the #constellation Cygnus?

The story goes that when Phaethon, the son of Helios, drove his father's chariot he lost control & Zeus/Jupiter had to kill him.

In the aftermath, Phaethon's lover, Cygnus, collected his bones to give him a proper funeral. The gods were so moved by this devotion, they put him in the night sky as a swan (who famously mate for life).
