In Hebrew:
Singular: אוזן המן /’o-zen ha-’man/ (Haman’s ear) Plural: אוזני המן /oz-’ney ha-’man/ (Haman’s ears)
Why ears?
Midrash: Haman’s ears were cut as punishment.
Culinary: A known Purim pastry in Europe.
Yiddish: “Hamantaschen” means “Haman’s pockets,” later aligning with the Hebrew “ear” version.
