Just finished scratching the decoration into this plate. Next phase is drying, then firing and glazing. I was inspired by my girlfriends' fascination for #beavers.

@NatureMC @dan613 @FantasticalEconomics @nspugh In #CzechRepublic, beavers just built a dam that humans had planned on since 2018: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/beaver-dam-czech-republic +

Couple pics of my little buddy Whittle chewing on fresh reed canary grass, an invasive species that the beavers nonetheless eat when it's new and green. Saw our first warbler of the season but it would not sit still for photos. #Hiking #Beavers #GetOutside

In #Czechia near #Brdy a 1,2 million #renaturation project was planned. but after years of planning when the project was about to start, they discovered that #Beavers had already done all the work!
@punissuer
Beavers were active from the get-go on the morning ramble, pretty sure the cute one is my fav Little Whittle. Lake is up about half-foot since mid-February, rewatering some of the wetlands, and they’re using that habitat. #Hiking #Walking #Beavers #GetOutside
"I was here." - Beaver
Very clear evidence of #beavers activity. You can see their many chew marks on this stump. This is in a small #Saanich community park, stewarded by citizens who live beside little Calvert Lake.
Access to trails is off of Prospect Lake Rd & easy to miss if you're not paying close attention. Only room for 2 cars to park on roadside pullouts. The trails aren't very well maintained & you can easily get lost around them. I've ended up in someone's backyard once, trying to hike back out. Wear long pants because there's a lot of places you have to bushwhack through along tiny footpaths. Lots of salal, Oregon grape, lady ferns (excellent for fiddleheads harvesting) & mushrooms.
"Beaver releases into wild to be allowed in England for first time in centuries"
#Beavers - allowed back in #England for the first time in centuries (I hope their working visas are up to date)
Chris Jones, a beef farmer, is very proud of his beavers. “They are just extraordinary,” he says.
Since releasing a couple into an enclosure on his #Cornwall farm in 2017, he says they have saved it from drought, prevented flooding in the nearby village, boosted the local economy and even improved oyster beds in Falmouth Bay.
Bold claims but..

"there were hesitations in government over releasing the beavers...because of concerns it was a Conservative legacy project that could needlessly upset farmers"

Inspired by a trip to the Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve at Loch of the Lowes in Dunkeld, Perthshire.
Loved seeing those gnawed tree stumps!
Beavers are emerging as unexpected allies in combating climate change. Their dam-building activities create wetlands that conserve water, support biodiversity, and mitigate drought impacts. By restoring beaver populations, we can enhance ecosystem resilience and promote sustainable agriculture.

I think this deserves more circulation - The Guardian: Beavers save Czech taxpayers £800m by flooding ex-army training site https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/feb/11/beavers-save-czech-taxpayers-by-flooding-ex-army-training-site #beavers #engineering #publicworks
The beavers have arrived!
Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Shrewsbury Town Council are thrilled to announce the release of two beavers into the enclosure at Old River Bed Nature Reserve (ORB)
These beavers have had a long journey to their new home so it’s important to give them peace and quiet while they settle in! The boardwalk and woodland footpath will be closed for approximately one week after the release.
No 10 blocks beaver release plan as officials view it as ’Tory legacy’
Is this just petty or is it a case of the experts - in this case Natural England, not being listened to?

They stop the few good tory policies but carry on the ones we want gone....what is this Government for and who is it for?
Yesterday I read that a Tory pledge to fix a South London hospital has been put on hold for about 6 months and during that time the roof to the Phlebotomy Department caved in.
What has Labour done in the past 6 months?!
