I had a chance to witness the Great Blue Herons elaborate courtship rituals at the Everett Marina in Washington state recently.
Although they don't mate for life, they form a close bond for a breeding season.
The male picks the nest site and attracts a female by displaying various courtship rituals.
In this capture the male displays neck stretching as a part of the courtship rituals to attract the female's attention and actually it looks like they're doing the tango.

this Boat-Billed Heron thinks that shit is pretty funny, actually.

a large brown and black heron with a very large, flat, and gnarly bill - which has gaps around the edges which look like a suppressed grin.

Round black eyes, a reddish breast and black/white/gray wings.

Baltimore Zoo, a few weeks ago.
