Two of my coworkers took #Amtrak's new (temporary) service for its inaugural run all the way from Chicago to Miami a few days ago.
All 48+ hours of it.
In coach, because public media isn't exactly flush with cash.

Je prenais souvent mon appareil photo avec moi et ainsi ce 29 septembre 2004 en attendant de rentrer vers Arlon, comme il y avait un peu de temps alors clic-clac (pas Kodak mais Minolta à l'époque!) une photo de notre train en gare de Luxembourg. Bonne soirée!
A memory of my beginnings in the operational staff by the railways... I often took my camera with me and so on September 29, 2004 while waiting to return to Arlon and as there was a little time so click-clack (not Kodak but Minolta at the time!) a picture of our train at Luxembourg station. Per #railfan community, it appears that the federal government of Mexico is in the process of killing off the famous #Ferrovalle freight service to Polanco #CDMX by withdrawing the operating rights to that portion of the line.
In all my free time (
), I've turned into an accidental #HomeNetworking hobbyist, run the automated weekly build system for #OpenWRT fork #ROOter, spoil the giant pile of needy #sheepdogs, and play #mechanic on anything that doesn't run away from me fast enough. Any time left after that is usually "spotting" mechanical things, if it's machinery I'm probably interested. Some #planespotting (also an #ADSB collector), #shipspotting, and grew up #trainspotting (#railfan for Americans).
I've gone down some pretty deep YouTube holes on the freight #railroads of #MexicoCity, as pictured in the toot above this one.
Sometimes the #railfan slang cracks me up. A locomotive might be called the obvious: locomotra or maquina.
But the switchers used by #FTVM are also called patieras: yarders, or yard switchers.
The best term, though, is cotorra. That's the word for parrot -- a nod to the engines' green and yellow paint scheme.
Expect a #train on any track at any time!
Elements of Mexico City’s past, present, and future converge in one chaotic scene. The train is Ferrovalle’s Servicio Julia, which travels deep into the city to deliver grain to one surviving mill in a sea of museums and skyscrapers.
