🦋 A Tiger Swallowtail has recently emerged at a time when there are few preferred #wildflowers for it to feed on. Luckily, a #NativePlants gardener planted Carolina Jessamine years ago and it already has cascades of yellow flowers.

🌻 So the gardener gets to enjoy the flowers and the #butterfly.

The neighbors, however, must treat traditional lawns with chemicals to kill weeds.

looking across a bit of open snowy ground toward several poplar and birch trees with native and planted plants growing near and under them (all bare or with dry foliage). Near the centre, the lowish sun shines through the trees in the background, backlighting a clump of dry golden brown stems and leaves in one of the garden beds (Aralia racemosa), casting a golden glow and shadows on the snow, and adding a warm golden glow to the mostly silhouetted trees and glimpses of dried grass and plants below them.

Part of a smallish log, positioned nearly straight across the centre of the image. the log is covered in golden green moss, and the top half is snow covered. There is snow as well on the ground in front and behind. The snow looks soft and half melted and is pitted from the drips of melting snow water and slush from trees above, with bits of forest floor debris showing through. A patch of sun illuminated 3/4 of the log (all but the top/back) and part of the ground in front, the rest is in shadow.

It's been beautiful out for days in various ways- colours, light, weather- as the seasons shift. Looking from the moving car across the wide mowed ditch, then a barbed wire and post fence and then a field. Several centimetres of snow coat the low grass and the taller grass under the fence. The snow began with rain so it has stuck to many surfaces. Across the field is a low band of fog slightly obscuring a farm yard with several buildings and a cluster of trees, some bare of leaves and some large dark spruce-- all coated to some degree with snow. The sky behind is pale golden above the horizon, with post sunrise light. Higher up are bands and lines of cloud, blue-grey with coral highlights in places.
A shadowed grassy snow covered pasture shows bits of gold where the snow is thinner. Farther back some small saplings .seedlings and a faintly seen fence lead us into a thick patch of mixed woods- mostly spruce and bare poplars with some birch, all coated in snow, the spruce still appearing dark. Above strips and patches of blue sky mingle with a narrow zone of gently fluffy slowly dispersing clouds, light to medium grey with coral highlights from the recent sunrise.
A short straight section of highway, with a double yellow centre line and dark with melted snow and road sand leads to a curbe to the right. the ditches to each side are white with snow as are the trees to the left and farther away to the right. Yellow road signs indicate the curve and post the speed limit for the curve of 55km/hr. The sky is a mix of blue with light warm grey clouds. Just to the left of the curve, a gap in clouds above is allowing sunlight to brighten a group of bare snow coated poplar trees. A single vehicle is about to go around the curve to the right.
Looking right and ahead across a sliver of highway at lower left, a cross a snowy ditch, wire and post fence, then snow covered grassy pasture and a wetland area withl ow shrubby willows in front, taller birches farther back and much larger poplars and spruce behind. All are coated in snow, and the sun filtered through uneven cloud with bits of blue sky and recently lifted fog patches has silvered the whole scene.
