Wow, a stunning image by JWST of an Einstein ring, a more distant galaxy's light being bent by gravitational lensing around a much closer galaxy. The closer galaxy is an elliptical and the much more distant galaxy, which in this case is perfectly aligned behind the foreground elliptical thereby forming the ring, is a spiral galaxy. I think this beautiful image is going to be my desktop for awhile. Just stunning!

[Zoom on the #CosmicWeb] Have you dived into the deep fields of #Euclid revealed this Wednesday by the @ec_euclid ? Have you navigated between the thousands of #galaxies of different shapes, sizes, colors and masses? So many objects, near and far, fill our #Universe! sky.esa.int/esasky/?hide_welco

What if their spatial distribution could tell us something about two mysterious components : #DarkMatter and #DarkEnergy? This is the gamble taken by the scientists involved in the Euclid mission. To do so, they've designed some unrivalled #instruments: a camera with great depth of field and high resolution records the variety of shapes and spatial distribution of galaxies, while a #spectrometer coupled with a #photometer can determine the distances and masses of galaxies ...

😲 A recent James Webb Space Telescope discovery might suggest our universe is trapped inside a black hole! Also, each and every black hole in our universe could be the doorway to another "baby universe. Wait, really? We were living in a black hole all this time? #blackhole #universe #WTF space.com/space-exploration/ja

Space · Is our universe trapped inside a black hole? This James Webb Space Telescope discovery might blow your mindBy Robert Lea

The Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635) is a stunning, 7-light-year-wide bubble formed by a massive star 7,100 light-years away in Cassiopeia. The star’s winds blow gas at over 6.4 million km/h, creating this cosmic shape. The nebula's bright colors are from oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen gases. Discovered in 1787, it's one of the most fascinating objects in space.

The neutrino left its trail while the observatory, #ARCA, anchored deep in the Mediterranean Sea, was still under construction.

“We’ve never seen a #neutrino this energetic, & we have been looking for them for a few decades now,” Wissel said. “We’re trying to understand what the #universe is capable of & how it does it — & this one neutrino is exciting.”

#Neutrinos weigh almost nothing & have no charge. They are generated by #nuclear #fusion reactions inside the #sun. Trillions stream through our bodies constantly, without anyone noticing.

But they are also generated outside our #galaxy, & because they rarely interact w/matter, they travel in straight lines from their origins to us—like arrows that pinpoint exactly where they came from. That can help scientists searching the #universe for astrophysical phenomena.

“It’s incredible, right?” #neutrino physicist Paschal Coyle, a member of the #KM3Net team that did the research, said. “There are these objects in the #universe that can accelerate particles to such extreme energies. How that’s done, we don’t completely understand yet. So every piece of information that gives us a clue of the processes involved in achieving such high #energy — this is one of the main goals of #astronomy.”

Some scientific discoveries shake up my brain.🤯 esa.int/Science_Exploration/Sp
On the one hand, it almost blows my mind when I think about it further. On the other hand, it's wonderfully reassuring to realise that there are a lot more important and fascinating things in this cosmos than some evil guys on two small legs.

Startrails on a summer night in Gran Canaria.

This is a series of 400 pictures I took in 2017, with the company of my great friend @notengocerebro.

Astrophotography has always been fascinating to me, and has also worked as a kind of therapy. Witnessing the magnificence of the Universe always helps me relativize problems or overwhelming situations, and helps me put things into perspective.

It also gives me the opportunity to live two moments at the same time: the past from the stars, and the present of the moment.
