A potential chrome-killer? Just saw this article and will look into Zen browser.
That’s it. I simply cannot use @zenbrowser for work.
My battery drains faster than a truck burning fuel. My CPU goes crazy. Bugs break the little concentration I have.
This is mainly a lesson to myself: do not use beta software unless you are truly and fully committed to address the potential consequences.
Going back to vanilla #Firefox, hopefully switching to @librewolf as soon as I have some time to get it up and running.
Pro/cons #Floorp vs #Zenbrowser
Mmmmh @zenbrowser just closed 45 tabs, open in 4 workspaces, and I can’t seem to be able to recover them…
Daaamn
Tips? (No time for debugging right now tho)
If anyone else is concerned that the Enhanced Tracking Protection icon has disappeared from their URL bar of #ZenBrowser, you can fix it in about:config. Set zen.urlbar.show-protections-icon back to true, and restart the browser.
It shouldn't changes in about:config to reset this sort of thing...
@technikhil @davidrevoy I just gave #Librewolf and #Zenbrowser a try. Both seem to work perfectly fine, and reimporting my date from #Firefox was easy (which seems logical since they're both based on Firefox).
I'm not switching now though. I took a minute to check my Firefox settings and opt out from everything that seemed not to be data privacy friendly.
I'm wondering if those forks are actually viable if Firefox dies one day... So for now I'd rather not cut the branch I've been sitting on for 2 decades, wait and see.
I like the look of Zen browser though, looks like arc!
this is it. Move away from vanilla Firefox NOW!
use alternatives like Librewolf, @zenbrowser, Waterfox or any other Firefox-based browser like that.
Additionally go and support @servo, they are building a new web browser engine from scratch.
fuck you @mozilla (dead account) for destroying the only good left in your company & foundation

Ah! #ZenBrowser can't auto-update. Need to manually download each version, close the browser, and install new one
Like #Librewolf
I'll miss that
trying out Zen and Floorp browser
Version 1.0.1-a.20 includes ARM64 builds for Windows and Linux!
This release only contains bug fixes and small improvements, since we are working on a big update for the next release. Stay tuned!
sidebery combines both of these extensions into one, and it seem very solid and well designed. the panels work like #zenbrowser 's workspaces and it is a nice smooth experience. i saw a lot of recommendations of folks saying sb > tst and i think i agree now. 2/
Years ago Opera Presto, then later Vivaldi, switched me onto the substantial browser usability improvements from a dedicated second sidebar incorporating customisable #WebPanels. Sadly, eventually, it became too hard to keep faith with the Vivaldi project for numerous design reasons. #FirefoxNightly with #Sidebery became my new home instead, despite lacking that extra sidebar. Much more recently, #Floorp
crossed my radar, replete with a Vivaldi-esque WP sidebar, & i was smitten. It does, however, have some issues i dislike, but i tolerated them for the overall good. Then #ZenBrowser
arrived, & i had a new love, albeit its unusual WP implementation is less convenient than it should be. Atm both
&
seem to be heading in design directions less attractive to me, so the age-old quandary continued. Then, a few days ago, i serendipitously stumbled onto this fab project https://github.com/aminought/firefox-second-sidebar, & now i'm as happy as a porcine creature in biological byproduct...

@codeDude None of those. Instead:
@BigEatie Aperiodically the preference sequence changes, but atm:
Continuing this thread from two months ago.
I think I found my #Firefox replacements. For #Android this is now #MullBrowser by @mullvadnet. I used #Fennec before, but suddenly it had update issues, so I switched. For #Linux desktop I think I'm going to switch to @zenbrowser. Although still in alpha, it's really usable. Only small issue is that there are no Debian/Ubuntu packages (.deb) available, so I have to use AppImage (that I don't like). Flatpak is also available, but not as an optimised build. Anyway, I'm going to remove all other forks from my system, and use #ZenBrowser in parallel with stock Firefox for a while. Hopefully they will go in beta soon.
@chris @thelinuxEXP Just fyi. #Floorp 11 has had limited development for months, coz the Dev is very busily coding 12 which they've said is going to be a very big change. Not only does it rebase from ESR to FF Release parity, but they are also apparently adding new features... but also removing several functions, at least some of which might afaict disappoint longer-term Floorp fans. Tbh i'm quite apprehensive about what's coming, & whilst i wait i've been using & mostly enjoying #ZenBrowser
. Fwiw.
@zenbrowser Yes...
...coz #ZenBrowser's been my default for several months
