Someone sent me an Orange Pi 5 Pro the other day for repair and sadly I was not able to fix it, thought the issue was quite obvious.
RK806-1 PMIC not only blew up - it catched fire and welded itself to the board so badly that I was unable to remove it. It also took an SY8089AAC with it.

How did that happen? He used a DC-DC step-down converter. No idea why and how, but I''d avoid using those converters at all costs.

Finally today my memory cards arrived so I can enjoy playing with Libre Computer Alta. And when you do SBCs, Do NOT buy a cheap ordinary memory card. Or like me you will waste time and money. Alternatively, you could even go for M.2 SSD or boot from USB 3 if your SBC supports that.

Wanted to share a recent project of mine from past few weeks to turn my #nanopi r5s #sbc into a really potent pure debian Linux router that was sane to manage.

I was able to successfully switch over this weekend and retire my edgerouter-6p.

The formula is basically #ansible #systemd stuff #netplan #dnsmasq #frrouting and #foomuuri -- the lynchpin solution for sanely doing robust zone-to-zone firewalls using #nftables
