Fire chiefs warn UK is not prepared for climate crisis impacts

The #UK is not prepared for the impact of #ClimateBreakdown, fire chiefs have said, as they called on the government to take urgent action to protect communities.
The National Fire Chiefs Council (#NFCC) said the ability of fire services to tackle #weather-related emergencies was at risk, despite them often being the primary frontline response to major weather events including #flooding, #fires caused by #heatwaves, and #storm-related emergencies, all of which are becoming more common.
The #MetOffice predicts that winters by 2070 will be as much as 4.5C #warmer and 30% #wetter than they were in 1990, while summers may be up to 6C warmer and 60% #drier. The south of England is projected to face temperatures reaching 40C (104F) and #rainfall is expected to increase by a quarter.

Rainfall v1.5 is released! (rainfall.dev)

Rainfall is a Bandcamp exodus tool that lets you upload your music and create a static site using the lovely Faircamp (simonrepp.com/faircamp/). You can download this site as a ZIP and host it anywhere on the web, or host it on Netlify with a few clicks.

This is a very behind-the-scenes update. For the technically minded, I've moved from sqlite -> hosted MariaDB, moved to Minio object storage for storing all song files (local volume is now only used for staging faircamp builds), and implemented Celery for background processing of preview generation (because with the Minio changes, it was taking too long).

This is a *HUGE* milestone for the app: You can now deploy your site to Netlify (netlify.com), where it will be hosted for free, using an OAuth integration! No need to manually upload your ZIP!

A webapp called Rainfall, for generating music sites. The header reads: "Editing Danger Third Rail" There is explanatory text beneath that: "A site is composed of Releases. Each Release represents an album, EP, single, etc. A Release contains a number of songs/files that you upload here. The name of the release, as well as the artist(s) for the site, are taken from the ID3 metadata of the files you upload. You can upload songs in any of the following formats: .aiff, .aif, .flac, .mp3, .ogg, .opus, .wav Max upload size is 100 MB. If you are attempting to upload files larger than this, try encoding to FLAC or Opus. Faircamp will transcode all tracks to Opus anyways. Add a release and some files, and then you can preview your site." There is an input field for renaming the Site, as well as an input field for adding a Release with a new name. Below that are two buttons, "Preview Site" and "Deploy", with a drop down menu. The menu is open and an overlaid red arrow is pointing to the item "Host on Netlify". Below, there is a green box with green headers that contains the names of the Releases that make up the Site. There are lists of songs, and disabled buttons for uploading songs, which would presumably become active once the "Choose files" widget is used.

Imagine 144 and more days without running water. You can get non-potable water delivered, but it costs a lot of money and you need to have somewhere to store it.

And desertification, usually associated with parts of Africa, is now a reality for those on the island of Sicily...

We will see a lot more of this in the future, unfortunately...
