@diverdutch We went to #IslasHormigas Club de Buceo. I was really surprised. The base was full of divers. We've been there from 24th dec to 2nd of jan. Everyday 2-4 ribs full of rec divers!

The 'MarineReserve is really stunning! We often dive in the Mediterranean. But places like these are very rare. On day, we made a shoredive from Cala Roja to Cala Fria. It was so nice between the cliffs and so much life to discover. For sure we will be back!

I had to laugh about your § with spending time and money with diving! That's so true for me too! And we are two. It escalated that quickly . After 2 years we needed a bigger car- too much equipment. Now the downstairs storage is full- we need a bigger flat or house . It never ends.

But you know...diving is fun ! No matter what.

We've been to Cabo de Palos over new year. I love this place. Especially Cueva del Aggua.

Osama Gobara - #cavediving Explorer

What I really like in Os is his humble manner. The guy does dives down to 150m in remote areas. Expeditions in caves without seeing light for weeks.

But he is also a very good teacher. And you can see from look in his eyes that he just loves #diving. No matter what.

Returning from our #cavediving adventure in #Mexico #Yucatan . Barely known is the beauty of the underwater #cenotes there. It is truely a wonder of nature. I feel honored to be able to spend time there underwater .
We learned #scubadiving #sidemount with Osama Gobara and had great company with Belgian and Swedish people .

I took this picture of a manatee ten years ago (geeeeez) at Crystal River. It was for a film about Wildlife and Humans interactions. Three Sisters Spring was still open and the US Wildlife and Fish Service had issued me a permit authorizing me to go down to the bottom in apnea. I guess it's forbidden now and I think Three Sisters is close now to protect the manatees ( who are in danger and adorable by the way).

Up close and personal vol 3.

This photo is from my next film "Face to Face with Orcas" broadcast in March. It is a hunting image during a feeding of about thirty orcas and two humpback whales in Norway in January last year. You can see on the pic my friend Rodolphe Guignard who is the protagonist of my film. The water temperature was about 3 degrees celsius (37 Fahrenheit) and choppy, choppy, choppy :-)

Happy birthday to me! I celebrated with a chilly, but outstanding dive at Peirce Island in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning. The tides and currents limit the time window for diving at this location, but it is absolutely spectacular this time of year. The nudibranchs were so dense we barely moved during out 30 minute dive.

Subject: Flabellina verrucosa nudibranch approaching the flowery head of a pink hydroid to eat it.

Subject: Pinky hydroid a.k.a. nudibranch food! This flowery looking creature uses sticky tentacles and stinging cells to snag food from the water column. This site has dense fields of them, which is what attracts such a large nudibranch population.

Subject: Tenellia gymnotha. A tiny nudibranch with a transparent body and orange cerrata on its back. The cerrata are darker orange toward the base and paler orange near the tip.

A selection of critters from a December dive at the UNH Research Pier in New Castle, New Hampshire

Subject: Sea star tube feet. An orange sea star walking across a mussel shell with tube feet extended.

Subject: Fifteen-scaled worm. A brown and red worm with plates on its back crawls through a bed of mussels and tunicates.

Subject: Northern cerianthid. This tube worm was sticking out of the muddy bottom to use its stick tentacles to grab food floating by.

Subject: Frilled anemone. Fort Constitution is chock full of anemones, but I liked the splotchy patterns on this one.

Met up with a buddy for a morning dive at Folly. The visibility was great, but we just didn't find a whole heck of a lot. A few rim-backed nudis, some moon snails, some anemones, and not much else.

Subject: Moon Snail. This snail is half buried in sand, but has a pale, colorful, striped shell.

Subject: Northern Lacuna snail. This snail has a dark brown shell with a light bright inner edge giving it a spiral pattern. It is crawling along a piece of kelp, which is coated in white, lacy bryozoans.

Subject: Palio dubia (rim-backed nudibranch). The nudibranch is floating free in the water column and was shot to black out the background.

Subject: Northern Lacuna snails climbing on a piece of kelp. The structure for this image is provided by a dead sugar kelp stalk, which has several snails and some encrusting bryozoans on it and is bright against a black background.

Some images from a lovely dive at Canoe Beach in Nahant, Massachusetts last week.

Subject: Pair of Doris pseudoargus nudibranchs. The larger individual is light yellow and the smaller individual is a darker more orange yellow. This pair appears to be mating.

Subject: Palio dubia. This nudibranch species often lets go of whatever they are crawling on to "take flight". This individual was free-floating, so I put my blue glove out for it to land on.

Subject: Forbes sea star walking along a rock. Sea stars, urchins, and sea cucumbers use hundreds of tiny, sticky feet to crawl around and sense their surroundings. These tubes produce adhesive, which sticks to the surface and then the star secretes a solvent to release the grip.

Subject: Placida dendritica. This tiny sea slug eats algae and steals the chloroplasts to produce energy from sunlight. They are quite literally solar powered!
