There is a lot of misinformation spreading about Loops, and I want to clarify some things

Loops doesn't ingest any federated activities besides:

- Loop Video Likes
- Loop Video Shares
- Account Follows
- Comments to Loops videos
- Comments to Loops comments
- Reports about Loops content

Videos uploaded to other platforms like Mastodon, Pixelfed and PeerTube will not be included in our For You algorithm, only Loops videos will be

Also we don't claim any ownership, we revised our ToS 😉

So I'm building the Sound Library feature in Loops (and will add it to Pixelfed eventually)

It's so cool, and we're working on support for other fediverse platforms so we can leverage their library of audio content and gain their authors more exposure by this cross platform integration.

It's like the pinnacle of ActivityPub, a video app using Audio activities from another platform.

You love to see it 😎

Continued thread

Is there a federated replacement for short form video? My biggest issue right now is getting people OFF of TikTok and Instagram. #Pixelfed seems primed for part of this, but #Loops not being open for self hosting is a big problem right now. (1/2)

Loops has many users and got a ton of funding way back in June 2024 (9 months ago) but I don't see any development , app side or back end side for federating code to even become 'stable enough' to implement federation. They are not currently federated despite labelling themselves as such in their KICKSTARTER to get funds and in their grant with the EU. Of course there's been no current backend code released in 3 months, so there's no way to see if they're actually working on it or not. Again, loops is not actually open source. Which begs the question, how do you know if it's stable or not, let alone that it exists or that they're not misusing funds? I'm not a software developer so if I missed where they'd be working on it, let me know. Otherwise, I call it as I see it: scammy.

Dansup (Pixelfed, Loops, and FediDB dev) 's treatment of Hazel, a dev that he excitedly announced was joining the Loops team only to later retract that and publicly berate her, catalogued here - dansup-open-letter.github.io/a - is gross.

Dansup's treatment of Tobi, one of the GoToSocial devs, and the GTS project in general, recently has also been gross - mastodon.art/@welshpixie/11395

Switch to Public Social Media

Publicly owned digital media is our only protection against the oligarchy's total control of public information.

X to #Mastodon, Instagram to #Pixelfed, WhatsApp to Signal, Reddit to #Lemmy, Facebook Messenger to #Signal, Facebook to #Friendica, YouTube to #PeerTube, TikTok to #Loops

Note #Bluesky is owned by VCs and crypto bros. It is NOT public social media. Even if you are on Bluesky join #PublicSocialMedia today.
