We cannot relocate the world — it is only through standing and acting together that we will make the needed difference that saves us all. In the fight for justice, our voices will not be silenced.

Important court day. A farmer from Peru is suing German coal major RWE for contributing to climate change which is bound to cause a rockslide into the glacial lake uphill from the farner's honetown.. and drown them all... unless an expensive protection dam is built. The cost of which RWE shall have to pay.
The verdict by the first instance court in 2017 denied the argument.
Today's court, Oberlandesgericht Hamm, starts from scratch. The judges even did an onsite visit in 2022 as preparation.
And they appointed a court expert on specific climate attribution, too...who, it turns out, is on the side of RWE... See the second to last post in below thread...
Here's a live ticker from the court room. This is the last post in the thread:

As a middle-aged man I try to look after myself by running, cycling, stretching and touching my toes in the morning, doing climate activism, eating fresh veg, going to bed at a regular time, speaking to friends regularly, demonstrating with friends against the fossil fuel industry, meditatiing occasionally, intellectual stimulation, educating myself about #ClimateJustice, listening to birdsong, journalling, having conversations about ecology and trying to keep a #ClimateDiary.
“Our perceptions of vulnerability are so entrenched that even climate-related incidences in wealthy countries, like the recent floods in Valencia or wildfires in LA don’t lead to a change in narrative. In fact, climate activists continue to be criminalised.”

Let's talk about #Degrowth...
Imagine an economy designed to serve the planet and ALL its inhabitants, not just the most powerful. What might that look like?
______________________________________
Countries that have overshot ecological limits would scale back their non-essential production and consumption to lessen environmental impacts and to decarbonise more rapidly by:
Reducing reliance on cheap fossil energy
Reducing the use of material-intensive luxuries like SUVs, private jets, and oversized homes
Stopping unsustainable practices such as the industrial production of meat and the culture of fast fashion
Curbing the wealth excesses of the very rich
Promoting public transportation over private vehicle use
Fostering a culture of durability and reparability in consumer goods
Simultaneously, the focus would shift toward enhancing social progress and human well-being by:
Guaranteeing universal access to high-quality essential public services like healthcare, education, childcare, and transportation
Ensuring affordable housing and living wages for all
Implementing a public job guarantee; a nationally-funded program where the municipal government provides jobs to those willing and able to work
Embracing these changes does *not* mean rejecting technology. A balanced approach where technological innovation and efficiency improvements are pursued as long as they are sustainable, safe, and equitable should be encouraged. The focus is on using resources efficiently, distributing them fairly, and scaling down non-essential production to help societies achieve self-sufficiency and justice.

Mission Statement [reviwed and edited 24-12-21]
[but don't hold me to it]
After the devastating Dutch elections [‘23-11-22] I decided to dedicate my toots back to the original goal.
I care about a lot of issues, most global some national; but I won't be 'tooting' about them all.
First and formost I WANT to 'toot' about:
* #ClimateSolutions
Because I trust that most people reading know about the dreadfull future of climate change, I want to spread the, possible, solutions to a problem rather than reiterate on the problem.
* #ClimateJustice
One of those solution might be sueing the polluters or governments on human rights, violations or #Ecoside
* #ClimateAction
Action is by all means a solution.
* #ClimateEmergency
* #Climate
As said I want to focus on the global issue. I don't want to nitpick on too much principles. Like: "What's worse: eating cows or driving diesel?" Both are devastating behaviors of intitled rich people!
On the otherhand therefore I truly respect ANY effort to make a change for the better.
Most of all... I want to add instead of preach. Bring some bits of the puzzle to the table.
I'm NOT a scientist of any kind. I'm just a disabled old white guy typing on a desk reading and searching a lot.
I tend to toot 10-15 toots at 13:00* that I boost again unchanged at 20:00* the same day, but that's NOT a promise. [*=my [Amstedam] time]
I might be interested in: #StopCopCity #ClimateFinance #Capitalism #Energy #USpolitics #Ukraine #Europe #Bernie #XR #OceanCleanup #NextBlue #InductionCooking #TaxTheRich #Africa #FemaleSoccer #Ajax #WomensRights #Indigenous #BigOil #Greta #CityDesign #VanessaNakate #2030 #Wildfires / #Floods #IPCC #AOC and more.
But after a year or two there appear to be 4 general topics: #Climate #Gaza / #IsraeliGenocide #USpolitics and #Ukraine
I tend to follow anyone who 'retoots' or 'favourites' my toots. Forget it, I'm vain.
If any of my 'followers' wants to opt out... this is your chance, as always.

I took a badly needed birding break, today, at the Marine Nature Study Area. What does the future hold for these guys? Even under the most optimistic scenario for climate change, I believe ~30% of our species are predicted to go extinct by the end of the century. And of course, climate change goes hand in hand with other anthropogenic factors, none of which have halted, but which will certainly accelerate under the current regime. This is where Christian Cooper's observation that environmental and social justice must march in tandem comes in. Please see captions for id's.
Wir brauchen dringend eine neue Brandmauer für unsere Demokratie, gegen die Versuche von CDU, AFD und FDP rechtsextreme Positionen zu normalisieren und uns in die Vergangenheit zu führen!

On this Degrowthursday, please enjoy a gentle introduction to the concept provided by Steady State Manchester (@steadystatemcr)...

The way our economy is organised at present is unviable because it depends on endlessly growing in size to sustain itself and maintain a semblance of social stability. This growth, at a preferred three percent per year, is regarded as exponential, growing like compound interest. Three percent per year would mean an economy that doubles in size every 27 years, or increases eight-fold in an average Western lifetime. It is not surprising that critics of economic growth liken it to the pathological growth of a tumour, rather than healthy growth that reaches a natural limit.
This requirement for infinite growth is ecologically unviable: there is no evidence that it is possible for economic activity to be separated (decoupled) from the amount of energy and physical material moving through the global economy. It is therefore incompatible with the finite nature of the planet and the environmental resources which support human life.
An economy that is ecologically, socially, and economically viable requires redesign to ensure economic activity is based on what is socially useful while restoring and maintaining ecological assets. The fudges of ‘good growth’ and ‘green growth’ are not sufficient; the economy is viable only when it is able to function without growing in overall size.
Real increases in productivity and technological improvements must be shared as improvements in quality of life. This includes reductions in work hours and opportunities for increased activities that need not make a profit but have value for individuals and communities.
