Wow, a stunning image by JWST of an Einstein ring, a more distant galaxy's light being bent by gravitational lensing around a much closer galaxy. The closer galaxy is an elliptical and the much more distant galaxy, which in this case is perfectly aligned behind the foreground elliptical thereby forming the ring, is a spiral galaxy. I think this beautiful image is going to be my desktop for awhile. Just stunning!

In the next few months, from its perch atop a mountain in Chile, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory will begin surveying the #cosmos with the largest camera ever built.

This is another public art piece called #stjärnstoff #stardust which comprises several different materials and processes. Not seen here is a large scale black stone called #syenite and a jewelry shaped and high polished red #vånga a red granite from Sweden. The stones were picked as leftovers from other projects and with odd shapes not suitable for anything except art or they crush them to grit. Which I find depressing as those rocks have been dug up and their geological age is between 950-1200 million years. I like to form #sculptures that give a sense of awe to both the materials and of #deeptime, helping us to see what we usually just walk on. The sculpture on those images are the other part and is a work where I involved a care home for young adults with #downssyndrome. As you all know glass is basically sand, that is also geological. The #glasscrystal is hand blown and shaped through water grinding. The aluminium is 100% recycled and the #kelp like frame is directly shaped in wax. I took moulds of Tessan and Martin's hands, also moulded in recycled aluminium. This piece is placed in #lövstalöt #uppsala #sweden and was finished in November 2023. #art #artist #femaleartist #sweden #sculptor #glass #handmade #craft #skills #cosmos

🚀 I just love love LOOOOOVE when a board game embraces its nature of a cultural object and it references real life. Such as this project card from the board game Terraforming Mars. Can you guess what reference is made here?

🚀 Terraforming Mars is a very appreciated game thanks to its game mechanisms, but also its theme. It manages so well to capture the zeitgeist of de mid-2010s (when this game appeared) and the renewed optimism we had not only towards space exploration (I think we still have that), but also towards the corporations doing said exploration.

🚀 That's because no board game is ever just an island entire of itself. Every little component, every small game mechanism or rule, is influenced by the culture and society that created the game and can also influence the culture and society of another country that adopted it, given enough time.
